The Ellesmere Port Spring Trade and Model Boat Show is on, on the 5th. and 6th. March 2011 at the Waterways Trusts Ellesmere Port Boat Museum. There will be trade stands and club stands. Sailing will be available to all who wish to put their models on the water and for the experts in our hobby who want to enter their models to be statically judged there will be the David E. Owen competition.
Many of the traders and boat clubs from last year have already indicated their wish to attend.
Space is at a premium so to be sure of a space please let the organisers know as soon as possible. For Club stands call John Hughes on 01244 811703 and for Trade stands e-mail :-)

Hi John
Dave Grove from Hoylake ModelBoat Club we attended last year and not hesrd anything for this year are you expecting us
-
Hi all i have been told of a rumour that there will be no clubs at our march show can i just say there are about 15 clubs that will be upset if there is none as i have confirmed at least that amount for this year so far. the reason for my lack of presence this year on the forum is because me mike and john have been building a load more docks for this year and refurbishing a ten foot long model to sail around the waters of the show. photos to follow
Steve
-
pic's as promised and a big thanks to south manchester club and garth for making it happen hope to see a few of your members sailing her at the show also sorry if you dont like her :-))
-
thats what we started off with. can i say it has been built to an earth shattering standard credit to the guys that did it 20 years and it is still solid we did not have time to make hundreds of containers so we opted for a simple route which was to make her into a tanker for the time being as she was well weathered i would like to do the same after the show but for now she is all shinny and new.

the third bollard on the left of that last photo is a drop bollard to detatch from a tug after leaving the docks i thought it might be rarther cool to drop the assisting tug once in open water
-
the last for now

Steve ,do I have the name correct . Last year I went and had a look around ,very impressed .But tell me ,there seemed to be a lot of activity ,between the bring and buy ,and the chap up stairs selling almost new models .I Wanted to buy a particular boat ,and said to the person ,I will call back .the next thing ,it was for sale upstairs at a far greater price .Is this the norm ,buy it quick ,or pay more later .Many thanks .
-
hi steve
well done on the tanker its looking great looking forward to the show in march a few of us from kirkleesmodelboat club will be bringing are tugs to have a tow with you
thanks jason
-
And a few of us from The Runcorn group will be there as always..
Three Knots , just a thought as I never even noticed anyone upstairs (I assume you mean the trade area) selling built models , but might they have seen the model, bought it seeing a good price and then tried to sell it on thought there trade stand ? I was looking at 1 particular model and spoke about it at the bring and buy area and it was still there the sunday afternoon.
-
three knots i think you mean the ship finder general he has an eye for a bargain
-
Steve ,Hello ,Have had a look at this ,bloody good job you and your mates are doing with that ship ,is she to be a tow job .Have been looking at the site ,and the fella that is running TO QUOTE ,the very popular bring and buy ,well he was the fella ,last year ,had a nice North Sea support vessel ,at a very moderate price ,We agreed ,I will call back and pay the price ,Lo behold ,he had sold it and doubled the money ,now I don't mind a bit of haggling ,and winner takes all ,but I have been talking to a couple of guys ,and this is the norm ,with the guy who runs the B # B .This time I shall approach with caution .
-
well there best not be any foul play involved <*< :police:
-
Steve ,Hello ,Have had a look at this ,'blinking!' good job you and your mates are doing with that ship ,is she to be a tow job .Have been looking at the site ,and the fella that is running TO QUOTE ,the very popular bring and buy ,well he was the fella ,last year ,had a nice North Sea support vessel ,at a very moderate price ,We agreed ,I will call back and pay the price ,Lo behold ,he had sold it and doubled the money ,now I don't mind a bit of haggling ,and winner takes all ,but I have been talking to a couple of guys ,and this is the norm ,with the guy who runs the B # B .This time I shall approach with caution .
Hello three knots, I have run the ''very popular'' bring and buy for the last 3 years and NEVER had any complaints. PLEASE make it clear that your writing about Tony the Shipfinder General. He is entitled to buy whatever he wants from the bring and buy and as long as the seller gets what he asks, what Tony puts on top is up to him! It's not the ''NORM'' that i sell to him, so your couple of guys are wrong. If you're interested in buying something, get into the bring and buy before Tony and then you wouldn't have to rely on rumours for information and airing them in public on this thread. If I had a penny for all the rumours that are spread in the model boating world, I'd be a rich man!
-
Hi, The model belonged to a guy called Stev from Manchester, who came down to the Runcorn club. That year we took SS NORRIX, Kevin Grundis steam pilot cutter and the large tanker, named HUDSON SOUND or RIVER, the tanker burn out 3 motors and failed to finish the coarse, it did weigh 240 lbs in the water. ;) ;) :-))
-
The following traders have already committed to attending the show:-
BP Mouldings, Bernard McCall Coastal Shipping, Cammett, George Turner Models, Mac's Mouldings, Models by Design, Mountfleet Models, Reade Business, Scale Hobbies, Chris Brown Model Boats, SHG Model Supplies, Ship Finder General.
The Component Shop, Marks Model Bits and Hunter Systems are also due to attend. I have also been told that S & M Tools will be there but I have heard nothing from them yet.
There are also ten Model Boat Clubs attending to display their models, Many will be on the water.
We also have, this year, a display of radio controlled lorries, trucks and diggers.
There will be a bring and buy sale and also a raffle taking place during the two days of the show.
-
Garston .I Sent you a letter.but it has got lost .Someone is jumping up the wrong tree .If it was you that I may have asked to hold the price ,then its a common fault .Never ,in this world of economics gone wrong do you ask for a price to be held .You should nt say that a couple of guys were wrong and mislead me .Out side of my work ,I travel alone ,then only have myself to blame for a wrong decision .As for me airing a matter in a public place ,believe me ,this is a huge cause of things going wrong and eventually causing a massive Argument .So I wish you well in your venture at your bring / buy .If I can attend I shall make myself known .PS ,never hold onto a grudge ,it eats you .
-
OK Dave!
-
Just a reminder any modellers wishing to enter the David E Owen event at the EP spring show that it is pre-entry as per 2010 and entries will close 28th February 2011. The one advantage entering the David E Owen is the amount of space allocated to the display of each model . All models entered are judged to a standard Gold ,silver , Bronze not first past the post . There is also a Best in show award. In 2010 this accolade went to Stan Riffin with his magnificent Gambier Bay. Forms are available from
Bowwave :-))
-
S and M Tools are now attending and we are up to 14 Boat Clubs attending to display their models both off and on the water. Steve and Mike are working hard on the dock system which this year should be in the top lock nearest to the Island Warehouse and we have a new tow for tuggers to use. We are also running a raffle during the two days of the show this year which will be drawn one hour before the end of the Show on Sunday.
Looking forward to seeing you all there.
-
Really looking forward to the show :} its always good to get back into the swing of things after the long dark winter days and this is the first show of the year, it will be great to see all the familiar faces, and hopefully see some great new models.
regards to all Sub. :-))
-
The Component Shop and S & M Tools will definately be there, unfortunately Mobile Marine Models cannot come due to Bryan being in hospital. I am sure we all wish him a short and successful stay there and hope he is back fighting fit as soon as possible. Best wishes Bryan.
Modelling timber, Scoonie Hobbies, Model Power and Barries Model Lettering are also unable to attend and I have not heard from six traders who where sent the details. A Model World has also said he will not come because he cannot have the space he wants which has also been allocated to someone else, although with increased signage every visitor will know exactly where every trader and club is situated.
-
Hi all,
yes it's me at HUNTER SYSTEMS, we will be at the show even though it's a trip up the M6! and the price of fuel at the moment.

This get really confusing - where have all the Mikes come from? When I was at school I can't remember anyone else being called Mike (or Michael as my mother would put it) Which one of us is going to be 'Old Mike' and Which one 'Young Mike' and what are we going to do with all the other Mikes
Mike

I shall be very generous and let you be Old Mike(Michael to your Mother). My Mum had the same problem and was often heard to correct my first wife on the matter.
Just so that you will know who I am when you see me, beneath the broad brimmed hat and the smiling face you will notice a big coat, Australian outback should spring to mind. Bottle of sunscreen in one hand and score sheet in the other. Always cheerful never sad or miserable. Word of caution as my second wife says, never get on the wrong side. I still smile!
The other mikes, you could speak into them, or club them down a plank!
-
I'll look out for you Young Mike
The Old One

I have not been for a year or two, but yes there are ramps BUT most of the outside pathways are cobbles , ramps etc the main display building has a lift access at the rear, last time I saw it I would not put a dog in it, so unless you are a Chair user please don't comment on what is good access or not, as i said I have not been thee for two years because it was that ROUGH and you get shaken to death.

There's now a nice metal bridge that will take you into the front of the Island warehouse as opposed to going all around the back. Also automatic door openers have been put in various places. As for the lift i think you may have gotten it mixed up with the one in the Rolt Centre which is a bit cramped, but the Island Warehouse lift has plenty of room. As for the cobbles if you stay on the main paths you'll find that mostly it is flat, ideal for wheelchair users. In fact i can't think of anywhere where there is cobbles now!

Have YOU tried it in a chair,? unless all the ramps have been rebuilt and the cobbles removed it is a nightmare in a chair, (not buggy) also the downstairs is all new cobbles laid only a year or so ago when it was refurbished

Well I was going to bring a boat up and have a play on Sunday but my cars decided enough is enough and has broke a wheel bearing, can't get it fixed until next week. So will be in the little convertible. At least I won't be able to buy anything big! Looking forward to it now, Dave. :)
-
Well im going, i need to buy stuff. im sure it will be fine, and there is always people to help if you need it. looking forward to it :-)) :-))

Good timing that, I wish I'd thoght of sabotaging it last year before Wicksteed weekend. I wouldn't have an 8ft boat hull in my kitchen then %% %%
-
I am going by 15 plus years off attending, as my health got worse so did mt dependence on a chair and level smooth surfaces, i cannot take rough ground, the place was never wheel chair friendly in the past far to steep ramps and lots of very rough cobbles in fact the machine room where the lift is in the back of the floor is very rough and you had to get to the lift in the past by going around the back where the half sunken hulls where
now I don't thing everywhere should have wheel chair access new buildings YES old NO I don't believe in cutting holes in nice subs and putting in ramps destroying historic ships.
I was just stating how difficult I found it and I don't think it needs changing, because that is the charm of the place I just wont go because it is to rough for ME.

[/The last ,time i was there ,the cobbles wrecked my legs and ankles ,so unless there has been an inprovement ,not good for bad legs the chap from ribble agrees quote]

Day one..
Without going into to much spiel, I felt it was a great day, Despite a bit of drizzle, the extended port system was out and looked pretty impressive. Plenty of traders more than willing to take your money, the Truckers were there with their display.. Uh Thanks !!! my Son wants one of them as well now <*< and not forgetting the clubs supporting the show, a good turn out with plenty of models on display..
Great show well done Ellesmereport Port MBC and Co. Back on Sunday just to get those few bits I missed..

Seemed to be a good turn out despite the less than ideal weather...at least it was nice and calm for the water side activities!
-
Good timing that, I wish I'd thoght of sabotaging it last year before Wicksteed weekend. I wouldn't have an 8ft boat hull in my kitchen then Crazy Crazy
Hi Audi,
ever thought of standing it on end and putting shelves in it.
You may as well get some use out of it until Dave decides to start the build.
Could use it as a wine rack {-) {-) {-)

i reckon at scale 1;32 that narrow boat is about 1970 feet long, so those little tugs are doing a grand job, lol................watch out for burnt motors though.........don't smell too good, lol
-
Off back to The Village after a great day at Ellesmere. Nice to meet up with people and meet more Mayhemers. Great weather and enjoyed sailing the Solent class lifeboat. Ready for Wicksteed now. :)

Must Have missed you, where were you Hiding Number 6.... 8)
A couple more from today, Video to follow..
-
Also Hope those who were able to attend took time out to visit the various parts of the Museam, I have seen most of it before but I still find it quite interesting.. :-))
These are just a few other None March show related..
-
We must've just missed you yesterday TLB, didn't set off to The Village until about 4. I agree the Museum is well worth a look around in it's own rights, fairly quiet during the week (unless there's a school trip visiting!) Also worth heading up the Wirral to look at the U-Boat, boat trips available there too and not far away really. http://www.u-boatstory.co.uk/ (http://www.u-boatstory.co.uk/)
Sure I'll see you at some point this year, take it easy, Dave.
-
No Doubt.. :-))
A Short Video of an I/C Bobby (Liverpool Club) doing a Run, about 10-15% larger than a Standard "Bobby" :police: , would have been quicker but had an oversized battery in and the fuel was a bit old..

I know mike (ellisgarth) has already thanked everyone but i just want to say THANKYOU TO EVERYONE WHO CAME AND MADE THIS SHOW A GREAT ONE we had a record number through the doors and talking to the traders they all seem to agree.
THANKYOU also to the traders we hope to see you all and more next year.
I also want to thank mark from MMB for letting me use his tug to tow our 14.5 foot tanker that weighs approx 1.5 tonne around for a while just as he was packing up. now every one here knows i do a little towing and have sailed a fair few tugs but i have never been so impressed by a tug that i just picked up and had a go with, it has spurred me on to get my own monster mmb tug on the water. granted the independent Kort's are a head worker but they work very well once you get the hang of them. i would also like to ask if anyone has a photo of me towing the big tanker by any chance?
thanks Steve
PS i have no connection with MMB just very impressed with that little tug
