Title: Thanks from the BBC
Post by: Pointy on February 17, 2007, 07:03:00 pm
Dear Model boat builders,

All of us here at the BBC would like to thank all of you who so generously contributed their dazzle painted ships to us.
I must say that all of us here at the BBC were very impressed with the models you provided for us, they are a testament to the sheer talent and skill of all you licence payers out there in "TV land" as we say here at the Beeb.

Well of course you are all very eager to learn what we have been up to with them and I can now reveal that they were used in the making of a documentary called-

"PQ17, Convoy to Hell"

Special thanks go to the following model builders:
Mr Arnold Pester. Mr Pester's model liberty ship is the one going down in the opening credits, it took the props department all afternoon to saw it in half.
Mr Donald Peesworth and Mr Franicis Butt. We liked your tramp steamers so much that you will notice that they feature frequently in the dive bombing sequence, note how Mr Peesworths' boat rolls over while Mr Butts just burns to the waterline, we were all very proud of the way that 7 second action shot turned out.
Mr Peter Aimsworth, Mr Aimsworths' refrigerator ship is the one being shelled without pity by U 255. Mr Aimswoth will be pleased to know that it took us over 200 air gun pellets to sink his boat!
Mr Ronald Dingle. Mr Dingle provided us with a beauty of a T2 tanker. The pyrotechnic boys say they were just bowled over by all the room in its hull to place explosives!
To all you others, well we shredded most of your models to simulate wreckage on the ocean, you may spot the odd dazzle painted ships' boat etc... from your particular model.

You must all be so proud, not only did you all as licence payers give all of us at Auntie Beeb a job but you saved us (and you!) a packet on SGI effects for the making of the documentary, which of course would not have been possible without all your hard work.

Very funny, Pointy, but totally unrealistic. Most producers are so far up their own a**** that they would never dream of thanking anybody!
