Hi all,
Having just joined this 'forum' I wondered if anyone could recommend a club or water in my locality Wigan / Warrington area
Thanks Bob/
-
I'm a member of the Hoylake Model Boat Club, which isn't to far from your area.
I live in Stoke, but the 80 mile round trip is well worth it, as the facilities are excellent and the members very friendly and helpful.

There is a small paragraph in the current MB mag about someone looking to start up a club at Three Sisters Country Park in Wigan. Hope that helps. :-) :-)

as a resident of that there Wigan.....
why in gods name would anyone want to try to restart a boat club at "that Bird sanctuary at 3 sisters?" would be a total mystery?
that pond is too small for the 10 million birds that reside there... forget room for a model boat!

I think the scale model boat club that used to meet at Haigh Hall has now moved to site behind what used to be the Squirel pub in Horwich.
The club is called "the north west scale model boat club" but I have never seen a website for them.
-
Was passing by there the other day and went to have a look, apart from a few Swans & Ducks was pretty empty.
Suppose the birds might have been out and about.
-
It is not a bird sanctuary its just everyone fed them and every were you walked you stood in there muck.
I think it was in model world that the club was advertised.
-
I sail at the 3 sisters model boat club, its not as bad as these few make out,

I have been down to Three Sisters on a couple of Sunday mornings now and no one has been there. Is all still well as I would like to join the club. {:-{

Yes, we are still going, sorry about the Website - expired years ago. If you want to make contact, turn up at the pond down Squirrel Lane, Horwich, sat. nav. post code BL6 7RR, past the only house down there, to a gate on the left, park and walk past the gate, bearing right and walk down to the pond. We can only sail on Wednesdays and Sundays, with an arrangement with an angling club, but we attend Exhibitions and shows, like Haydock, and are open to new members - no I.C. I'm afraid, we are mainly electric, sail, and anything else that sails. See our Club article in "Model boats" February 2013 page 57.

If anyone gets down as far as this on this quest for a club near Wigan -- I can add to the info. on North West Scale Model Boat Club - Horwich - we have a Website -- northwestscalemodelboatclub.com Lots on there, and we will have a stand at the Haydock show in August.

Three Sisters still Going..

Didn't see this till today, used to be a member, I thought originally they operated the water from North West Water, and the angling club were allowed to use it (till they removed the fish) this was 1992/3 - I should know all the bricks from mine and my neighbours back party wall went to shore up the west bank when it was being eroded.
The event of throwing the torpedo sub into the water was always fun to watch as it's owner got it out of his camper van threw it in and sometimes it stood on end, oh those were the days.

Warspite -- you're most welcome to join or visit us again! I was Secretary for three years, and as well as our Website, directions to the pond are on my 2013 post, above, and our next Club meeting is on Monday 15th at Aspull British Legion Club. We've just finished shoring up and strengthening the launching area, but you will probably still recognise it. Or if you're going to Haydock- find us and say hello.
-
I know where it is and it is a good water, constantly being refreshed (if you can call the run off anything like 'fresh'), last time I visited was some years ago, so I don't know what it is like at the moment, will have a look when I'm off in a couple of weeks. Though as for boats - financial constraints have halted all work for the short term.

You could also try Newsham Park Liverpool and New Brighton on the Wirral. and previously mentioned Hoylake is not far from there. I believe also a club in Southport
