Title: Small GRP boat hull
Post by: lockerrr on March 21, 2011, 04:46:48 pm
Hi all

Looking at making a small catamaran, only be 42cm x 21cm x 100cm.

I have been searching for glass on the internet, but can only really see Fastglas from Hlafords as a reasoanble option, does anyone know the weight of this glass?

Or know where I can get some GRP from? I am housebound at the moment so internet delivery is preferable.

Also will I get awat with only 2 layers as I am worried about overall weight of the hull as I have only accounted for an overall weight o for the hull of 1kg

Thanks

Paul

Another way of building could be balsa. Then tissue cloth glassfibre it. Just a thought. Any fiberglass firms near
you? Do realise travel probs. John.

http://www.fiberglasssupplies.co.uk/acatalog/resin_kits.html (http://www.fiberglasssupplies.co.uk/acatalog/resin_kits.html)

I buy my stuff from here. I prefer to use the 'west systems epoxy resin' and 'surface tissue' for external finishes(protect a wood surface, balsa ply, plank on frame) or G300 or 450 for internal layups with a gelcoat (plug work)
