Title: Star Polaris Plans #1414
Post by: oldflyer2 on April 18, 2011, 04:38:29 pm
I am new to this forum and am just getting back into model boats after a 25 year layoff.

I have ordered the plans for Star Polaris, Plan #1414. Has anyone out there ever built this boat? Any Pics?

It is basically an anchor laying tug, but I would like to modify it a bit.

It is a 1/50 scale boat ... does anyone know of a kit or plans for a working winch for this? I would like to use this boat in towing competition.

Cheers,

Tom

Star Polaris was a Model Boats feature by Roger Thayne which I think was published sometime in the early 1980s. I remember seeing the model on many occasions and it was indeed very successful.

Thanks for the info. I now have the plans in hand, as well as the ones for Star Perseus.

All is on hold for a bit while I sort out some medical issues, but with any luck, I may get a start early in the New Year.

Cheers

Hi Tom

Assuming I have the right vessel

On this page Star Polaris Built 1975 by Slob, Sliedrecht, 897gt http://www.shipspotting.com/gallery/photo.php?lid=1271527

(http://s14.postimage.org/g1ct1m2r1/Star_Polaris.jpg) (http://postimage.org/image/g1ct1m2r1/)

(http://s7.postimage.org/5mt8hfwkn/Star_Polaris_b.jpg) (http://postimage.org/image/5mt8hfwkn/)

There are three pics accessable from this page http://homepages.which.net/~derek.wood/cvpic13.htm he was mate for
three years on her and there is an email button at the bottom of the page. If you have trouble copying those images let
me know (click on them and you go back a page) as I have copied them now.

Hope this helps

Dave

It looks like this two pics are not about the same ship. Very different superstructures  ?

Star Polaris had two sister ships with Star Spica and star sirius : http://homepages.which.net/~derek.wood/cvpic23.htm
http://homepages.which.net/~derek.wood/cvpic22.htm

Now the Star Polaris is Oil Vibrant  http://www.shipspotting.com/gallery/photo.php?lid=1424008

noticed the IMO number 8224482 instead of 7407283 fro the first picture posted by Norseman above. IMO number is an important tool as still the same for a ship during the entire career.

Thank You muchly for those pics ... I had not seen them.

I have had the plans reduced to make a 42" boat. That size should be manageable for me.

No building at all though and likely not for another few months.

Cheers,

Tom
