I am going to try my hardest to make it to Wicksteed. It will be interesting to see how different people are when in person rather than when they are posting comments on a forum.
-
We must remember that everyone on this forum is at a different point in their modelling development and we must never forget that we were all once there. We all have to go through certain processes to perfect the things we do to get the result we want. Advice is one thing but I will not stand for any put downs from anyone or to anyone. Do not tell me what I should do,Tell me what I could do. Otherwise I'll tell you what to do with your's.
-
I like that statement
-
Nice to see that you've laid the ground rules for everyone to obey on Martins website. :-))
Regards Ian.

May be it was last nights beer talking or may be I'm genuinely cheesed off at some of the comments on this forum. Its easy when meeting in person to tell when someone is joking but on the forum comments can be misunderstood and taken the wrong way.
-
You only need to look at the time of postings to get some inklings of the tone of some of the comments, - - but not always. {-)
Regards Ian.

>>:-( <*< :-X ...not sure I necessarily agree with the comment from wartsilaone ......... "but on the forum comments can be misunderstood and taken the wrong way"
This could certainly be true when reading & trying to understand a new post from an infrequent poster :o %) ....but after say 100 posts...the true colours of the poster are evident 8) O0 :embarrassed: .....Derek

I know we don't always see eye to eye but I think we have to be a bit careful when posting. we may be putting potential forum members off.

The main issue I have is with the elitist attitude that some members seem to have. I appreciate that these members have many years of experience and their help can be very useful indeed. However what works for them may not work for me. As I said before, If I have a problem don't tell me what I should with my model just show me what you did to solve it. Then I can make an informed and unbiased decision.
I'll climb off my soap box now and get back to my modelling.

SORRY Ali,
but the one thing in this world that really does get my crawe, is wasting my time giving someone some advice that they have asked for, and then they do not take it.............
so I'll avoid your posts from now on, as I just can't be bothered wasting my time on posting solutions, that someone want to pick the bones over and take what he wants and disregard the rest.......life's too short.lol

Wot's all the fuss about ???? %)
If you are joking, then do this ok2 or :} or :-)) or even %)
If you are not joking, then do this >:-o or >>:-( or <*< or even .........dont post. %% %% %% %% %%

I Am sorry if I have accidentaly offended anyone but that is my point. It is very easy to do when writing something in the spur of the moment. I don't know your sense of humour, you don't know mine but if I am still welcome at Wicksteed maybe we can find out.

I've been to two Wicksteeds and a couple of Warwick Shows where I've met quite a few fellow Mayhemmers.
Their interests are as varied as their personalities seem to be, but we all seem to love what we do. Some, who I expected to be quite "forthcoming" turned out to be very quiet in real life. In fact, I haven't met anyone who I instantly disliked.
But maybe that's the difference between folks - if you're looking for something to criticise, then you'll usually find it.
I try to read posts for what I feel they say, rather than the way they are written - some people may find difficulty expressing exactly how they feel, so always read the best into things before leaping in to "have a go".
And please don't be critical of members who seem to only chirp in with one-liners!
I know that there are more members here interested in other branches of our wonderful hobby than in MY particular interest (see avatar) so I don't tend to write a great deal about how to make an ic boat go faster (even though I have been doing it for over 30 years), but still like to pass the occasional comment on things of common interest, especially in "chit-chat" where it is relatively "safe".
I'm looking forward to seeing old (and new) friends at Wickies this year, and will be sporting the latest in downtrodden peasant fashion. Hope you'll all say "bonas dears".
Cheers
Danny

Tee hee, that's why I avoid clubs like the plague. Too much 'you should do this or you should do that'.
Let people do what they want to their own boats, and if they want advice badly enough they'll ask for it. If they don't take it then why should that be an affront to you? Free country isn't it?
And, if some one pushed me in the drink they'd damn well be coming in with me!! {-) Might not neccesarily be getting out with me though... ok2
-
Replies #20 and #21; very well done.
Appears to circumvent the elitism and bullying present in some of the prior postings. %)
It matters not how proficient you consider yourself to be at model boat building, have some humility and remember, as you post, you are exactly the same as everybody else who posts on this Forum, just some bloke/gal sitting at a keyboard. %) O0

I noticed the icons on Ians comments so I know he was joking but he may have a good idea. what if it rains or worst still, your boat dose a Titanic in the deep bit?
