Title: Sea Wind or Wind Star

I want a bigger yacht but the mast/rig must be easy to remove for transport ,I have a very small car...

Setting up the mast be quick and simple..A club mate has a Windstar which fills the bill nicely...but I have been told that the Sea Wind is better value for money...

The old saying comes to play quality over quantity on this one. if the wind star hits all the right spots and sails well for the purpose you want it for, then that's the boat to buy cheaper or more value for cash does not always mean ''better''

Roadrunner, I have never tried a Sea Wind. So I have no idea how well made it is, or how well it sails.

I'm also curious why the pigmented Wind Star hull is not IOM legal but the uncoloured one is?

It may be that the pigmented one is for general  sailing and not competition entry, or that the pigmented one may fit in the fairwind class which is quite common for other makes of yachts to slide into that size/class range.

If your after a IOM yacht there are many others to pick from and they are all easy to rig up with only 4 main lines to the mast sails are easily rigged up, a club member has a old style IOM takes 5 mins to rig up, compared to my surmount 800 which can take up to 15 mins if i have to untangle a line or two.

Umm here are some other options for yachts that are in the fairwind class at 800mm up to IOM to take a look at, there are quite a few others out there if your budgets big enough which are the the true IOM racers.

Have a good look around before purchasing a yacht there are so many out there, and if you want to compete with it be sure you buy the ones that are accepted in the class!

Not interesting competing.... I have a Racing Micro Magic for competition sailing.

I'm just looking for a big yacht with a bit of presence that is easy to transport and will sail in a variety of winds on the stock rig

The True Blue according to the blurb is light winds only

Thanks exvtop. That explains the IOM pigmented hull rule nicely...

Anybody built or sailed a Robbe Sirius RS32 it looks like good value..

Roadrunner, I have looked at the web chatter on the monsoon range, a lot of it's not very good

No worries, i have had no issues with mine she sails well in all conditions, very fast and smooth to sail must be the sailors not the boat  :-)) ok2

Nope but thanks for the link but im not buying a book how to get the best from my cheap yacht i got for £30 off ebay that works fine once i re-rigged it with new line.

Besides I don't compete with the yacht its just something to knock about with and have a laugh with a few club members.

Its cheap and cheerful , and it sails well for £30 was a bargain nothing more, if i was to spend out i would most likely spend my cash on a Lazer and start racing that in the lazer class.

In the end my friend bought a Robbe Sirius it's very good in windy condition...but as with most the Chinese yachts I have seen, the rigging, out of the box, is pretty poor
