I assembled my TVR1A and test ran it several months ago now, but while it was sat there looking at me, I decided it could use a bit of enhancement. I stripped it and took most of the alloy parts to a local company to have them anodised. I like it much better now!
-
How nice that looks! , i did a similar thing with a IC car i had, took all the alu parts and had then anodised in purple, The black has given the engine a whole new look, issue is now making sure you don't scratch it!

Brilliant images Aeronut4 ...an old colleague...."bogstandard" noted previously ...."nothing better than black & gold"..... well done......Derek :-))
-
Congratulations, the engine looks great now. The cut-out cylinder base plate seems familiar somehow :}
-
OH YES :-))
-
Thanks for the compliments chaps! Scratches might be a problem, we'll have to wait and see!
Derek - The images could be better, as photography is one of my many hobbies, but I just couldn't be bothered to get the SLR out and set it up for just four pics!
kno3 - I thought I'd seen that enhancement somewhere before!
-
I like that!
I keep looking at the steam engine kits but the wife says I have enough toys <:(

The best build of a tvr1a vie seen so far. I did mine in black too, painted, so not the linkages, but I painted the gland covers too.
I tried the brass hex bolts on the manifolds, but the heads didn't have enough clearance with the pipe, how did you manage this?
-
Essex - you can never have enough toys!
logoman - If you look closer, you'll see that the steam manifold has bolts, whilst the exhaust manifold has screws. There IS just enough clearance to fit the hex bolts, but tightening them is very difficult, I ended up using a small pair of pliers for that! As an engineer, this somewhat goes against the grain, so I'm going to be using the screws until I can come up with a better way to tighten them.

Essex, a elderly friend taught me a while ago an adaptation of the old Nike slogan - "Just do it, its easier to get forgiveness than permission!". He must have managed alright, they have been married for 66 years. Aeronut, on a slightly more serious note I take it that your engine is the standard TVR1A ? I have yet to see a posting from anyone who has tested the ball bearing version of the engine. Thanks, Ian

This is the one with ball bearings.
