Title: Most enjoyable modelling jobs
Post by: Colin Bishop on May 27, 2011, 08:23:58 pm
As a counterpoint to Bryan's thread lets's look at what we like doing.

In my case, installing the running gear, electrics and electronics. Otherwise, building the hull in wood - a plague on GRP and styrene!

It has to be the big bits, the bits that make a big difference to the model. Once done you stand back and think, Yeah that looks good.

Yup! Sticking on the funnel does it for me.

Colin. Interesting. A sort of "yang and ying" thing. Half full or half empty.
But we all have highs and lows. I didn't intend to be totally negative in "the other place", but sometimes, just sometimes, you can plod along and not really see the end of the politicians mythical tunnel. Keep chugging. Unless you make a total cock-up the light will appear. Might take a decade or so! Bryan.

Bryan, I think it's good to have a bit of both, as you say, we all have our highs and lows and being able to share them with others shows that we are not alone which can be comforting.

The light at the end of the tunnel is the headlamp on the train that's about to run you over.

My favourite part- the very beginning, you have a blank canvas and the process of thinking it through lays ahead, all those little details that you want to add along the way, closely followed by sitting back and enjoying the finished article- though I get more moments of the former and not many of the latter....

All of it.
If I don't feel like one job today, then there is always a day when I will.  {-)
After all, I do it to have fun.  %%

Pretty much my philosophy, too.

Right from the point when I start a model, I have a mental picture of what it will (should) look like when finished, and this keeps me going when I strike a difficult area. In particularly troublesome bits it's sometimes best to leave it for a while - days even - then come back with a clear head (as long as you haven't been partaking of some medicinal alcohol :o {-) ) and start again. Having done this, it's remarkable how often a seemingly impossible job becomes easy.

However, if pressed as to my most enjoyable job, I would say fitting the details which really bring a model to life.

Peter.

I agree Peter, making something for the third time because the first two were not right is a bit frustrating, (as in your other post) as is trying to get small items off ones fingers after the super glue has dried.   :embarrassed:

building up the frames and keel of a plank on frame hull

and then planking up the finished frame.  Very therapeutic and you can see steady progress, unlike when making fittings etc.

Hi

so far - I'm new - it's been reading the forums here. They are damned addictive and beat everything on TV. Also I've noticed the old magic mead consumption is going up whilst reading these posts.
