Title: netting to make net trawls?
Post by: Martin (Admin) on May 29, 2011, 07:00:17 am
Via email to Mayhem...

Hi Martin,

Trust you are well?

I have a favour to ask. Last year at Warwick modelboat show, I bought bags of cheap netting to make net trawls. I can't remember the name of the trade. It was a stand that stood in the driveway to go to the cafeteria.. This trade exhibited a net filled with many fish, suspended from a gantry.

Do you remember the name of the seller, and you know if there a website?

 Thank you for your help....

The chairman of our club in heavily into fishing boats of all types, his netting material used is from kiddies fishing nets ( the 99p one) you can get from any beach shop, the netting comes in a range of colours, including greens ( dark and light) browns, blacks, reds, blues etc. The holes in the net are a good scale size for most boats.

Another good thing to use is mosquito netting - can,t remember where I got it from but used to use it in
the Med for putting over the hatches, so I must have got it from a yacht chandlers.  I used for
safety netting on helicopter decks on a frigate but would be ideal for fishing netting

Tesco are currently selling "mosquito covers" (Not sure a mozzie needs to be covered!? must be an 'elf and safety thing!) in little bags at 99p, probably about scale too I'd say.

Hello,
it was me who requested this information because I had purchased this product at the Warwick modelboat show last year, and it was very well suited and best resembled what I wanted to represent on the trawler that I was building.
These nets were installed on the model of the trawler Basse-Hergo, and was recently offered to the former captain owner . The real was scraped since 4 years...
