Hi guys pretty new to this so this question may seem dumb,is there a difference between radio frequency 27mhz and 27.145 or is it still the same,there told you it was dumb,thx.

There's no such thing as a 'Dumb question'
The term 27 Mhz is generic, in that it refers to the range of frequencies starting at 27.00 and going up in increments.
ie. 27.XXX mHz
The exact decimal place will mean that only 'that' receiver will answer to 'that' transmitter.

Thx kenny are the crystals sets easy to change for a novice like me ? what it is i have just bought a little boat for my little girl and hers is on 27mhz and mine on 27.145 and she is getting excited and wants to race me.

Crystals are easy to change.just like changing car fuses,
What does depend is what transmitter and receiver you are using,are they sealed units.

The 27Mhz frequency band is usually used for toys. There are several different ways of splitting it up, but a common way is:
26.995 MHz -- Channel 1 (Brown)
27.045 MHz -- Channel 2 (Red)
27.095 MHz -- Channel 3 (Orange)
27.145 MHz -- Channel 4 (Yellow)
27.195 MHz -- Channel 5 (Green)
27.255 MHz -- Channel 6 (Blue)
The most common frequency for a toy is 4 (27.145 MHz). Some toys feature switchable frequencies so that two can work together, but I suspect that both your boats are the same frequency, unless you specifically asked for a pair of boats which could sail together. It's easy to test this in the garden - just stand a fair distance away and operate both boats together...
If your radio is not intended to take exchangeable crystals it will be very difficult to alter it, and both cheaper and easier to buy a new £25 radio transmitter/receiver combo...

Cheers for reply again guys,they are toy boats but not dead cheap ones and both transmitters could be opened easy,were about's in boat is the receiver crystal normally hidden?

If you take a few photos of the boats and transmitters, inside and out, and put them on this thread we can give better advice. Otherwise, we're just guessing....
