The above web site appears to have been closed down.
Does anyone know what Rich has done now ? {:-{
-
Yes I have been trying to find out as well, I was wanting to look at Neil's ( nhp651 ) Clyde lifeboat build. :(( :(( :((
-
Don't point the finger straight at Rich >>:-(
Andy Bailey started the site and just recently decided to come on the forum, upset everyone, ban Rich and delete the forum. Nothing to do with Rich at all.
-
How messed up is that!,
As said it only takes one to ruin it for everyone else, <*< >>:-(
-
The full story started to develope this morning, after andy bailey came back out of the blue,, and accused rich of not doing his job properly and running the site.
He de registered about 100 members who had not posted or been on the site in a long while and this upset both rich, myself and tatooed, [admin.
I sent a message to andy that it was not fair for him to leave without a by your leave over a year ago, then to come back and have a go at other members..
within 36 seconds of me posting the message i'd been banned.
Rich spoke to andy and told him of the sillyness in which he was behaving and he too was banned immediately.
Tatooed, then, on seeing what was going on, this afternoon re instated our membership, and at that andy bailey pulled the plug on the site.
THOSE ARE THE FACTS AS THEY HAPPENED TODAY, AND I HAVE NO WISH TO DISCUSS IT FURTHER, except to say that any forum loss is a sad day for the members who have put effort and energy into making it work.
end of story.
neil.
-
Sorry to hear that Neil. I enjoyed being a member there.
Geoff
-
so did i mate, so did i.
ceste la vie.
-
In the short time I was a member there I enjoyed it very much indeed, in fact I received a lot of help and advice from other members, plans and parts were made for me by another member, so I will be sorry to see it go, I hope common sense prevails and it gets up and running again soon.
Jimmy
-
I do agree with Neil.
It is a loss to model boating and a sad day for the members (as most of you know I was a member too).
I do hope that all the history is not lost and it can be reinstated but after such a shock it would take time to be as it was even if it is reinstated.
Bob
-
If he's deleted the site on the server thats it gone for good , you might be lucky if they kept a monthly back up but it looks like it was a free hosting website so you don't get the back up's you get if you pay for your hosting
-
I'll not go too deep in the politics of what happened, Neil has described the situation very well indeed.
The bottom line is that Andy has had a hissy fit and pulled the plug on the forum, I've tried to get back in and retrieve the photo galleries, but the whole lot seems to have gone, and all the doors are firmly locked to keep me out.
I'd like to apologise to everybody for the loss of the forum, and I'd like to say I've been proud to have been part of it, and to thank everybody for their assistance and all the contributions to the forum.
Best wishes to you all,
Rich
-
Ah Rich and you were going to win the photo competition!!
Seriously, a very sad day for all members, but in particular such a shame for you and the guys that spent much time running the site and encouraging others along the way. The site will be missed. <:( <:(
-
Hear , Hear :((
-
As an open offer of generosity ( it don't happen often!) if you guys would like a new forum i would be happy enough to create an host one for you, I'll do the 'leg' work in setting it up if the interest is there, if all the admin of that site wish to contact me with there positions, i will help reinstate a new site to which you guys can work on, i know its not the same and the information that was there is lost, but i'm sure if we pull our resources many of those articles can return.
Get in touch with me or on the thread here with your feelings towards setting up a new one.
I won't shut down a site in a bad mood and am happy to share the 'owner' role out with Rich to ensure its survival if needed.
-
A great offer. I for one will help out if needed. :-)) :-))
-
What did the forum do that this one doesn't do?
-
Thats like asking what do all the other forums do that this one don't!
I don't think its a matter of what they do, its what is offered, besides not everyone wants to be on this forum which is there right, i am also a memeber of the tug forum and Model ship world.
Those two sites do offer some things this one does not as specialised subjects and i believe that the ''modelboatfrum.com'' was very much the same, i know it did host Neil's life boat build for this 'lockness' (forgive the spelling!) run he's doing, and that was a full warts and all things with all the mouldings being shows how its done! ( i did enjoy that build neil very helpful in learning new ways to do things :-)) )
-
What did the forum do that this one doesn't do?
It was a friendly place with sensible moderation no arguing, plenty of humour and mainly about boats. :-))
-
Ah, FFF...I was waiting for a question like yours. The answer is : nothing.
RCMB was a smaller, independent forum...we had no sponsors as such, and therefore we were not beholding to anyone. Being smaller, a lot of the membership felt happier in the knowledge that their modelling skills weren't going to be open to a lot of criticisms, and we encouraged them to post their builds, warts and all.
One of the members has had a stroke, and he felt 'at home' on a smaller forum. A lot of the guys aren't exactly computer literate either, so they needed a lot of help with posting anything. A forum the size of Mayhem can be daunting to a person who has only just learned how to turn a computer on, so RCMB was an easier alternative for them.
Another reason RCMB was set up is that a lot of the members had got fed up with over keen moderation (and I do NOT aim that comment at this forum, despite what you may think) on other forums. RCMB was famed in it's short lifetime for self moderation...I think I only had to wave my famous Red Pencil a couple of times.
RCMB and Mayhem ran side by side quite happily, with many members here being members of RCMB and vice versa. Information was shared between forums, and people learned from each other.
RR...your offer of assisting with another forum is greatly appreciated, I may set up another general forum in the future, but at present I have more than enough on my plate with the running of the website and the forum for the AMS (Association of Model Submariners), plus I've now taken on the role of Secretary as well, so I have more than enough to do. But I'm sure that if you'd like to go ahead with setting up another forum to replace RCMB, a lot of the guys would be forming a queue to join up.
Once again, I offer my apologies to all of the membership of RCMB for it's demise, and I'd like to say thanks to all those people who have sent me emails and telephoned me offering help and assistance. I appreciate every word...
Rich

Actually, it's quite hard to irritate me... well on the forum anyway, a few have but I always try to be conciliate.

that's a very kind gesture RR, and i do hope that the mods that were left on RCMB will take you up on it.
i enjoyed the site very much, and rich put it perfectly the ethos of the forum.
i also like mayhem very much, but the two sites are like chalk and cheese.
i saw RCMB as a site for beginners and for those who could help beginners, and both enjoyed posting and enjoyed reading what others who were beginners did to overcome problems, often learning from their own problem solving, and so, yes, i would like to see a similar site rise from the ashes, possibly call it the pheonix model boat forum, lol, and do hope that those who were there at the point of demise do get in touch with you and that such an idea can go forward.....it wouldn't be the same though, without Rich having some imput and waving his red pencil now and then.
please work on him, and again, many many thanks for the offer.
neil.

Well, it sounds like it would've been a site for me, sat here as I am, bodging bits together to get a model done for my gf (currently using plastic bottle caps and a hot glue gun for things :embarrassed: I know I know it's not 'proper')
I can't offer much help but my mate does web design if you want any help and he used to run a few forums. If it gets going I'll join up and do what I can to help (am online most of the day/night so could mod against spam and things if needed)
-
There I was thinking it was my computer :embarrassed:
I was a moderator on the site and put quite a bit on it, I was halfway through a wooden Shrimper build and feel quite sad that it has all been lost, along with some other members who where doing builds, I would think.
It was a good site, easy going and relaxed, if another site is set up I am quite prepared to offer my input
Alan
-
Same goes for me too.
Jimmy
-
Alan you should put the build log of the shrimper on here - it is a lovely model and though I never
have worked with wood I am really enjoying it.
Geoff
-
For different reasons, all the data on the "model boats" forum was lost too... <:(
NB: Do another Mayhem back-up today!
-
my member ship was cancelled yesterday said i had not posted enough on the forams not to worry martins still with us
-

Geoff
i agree totally, geoff.
alan, it's so good that the build could go into the masterclass section on the woodworking alone.
go on, give us all a treat.
neil/
-
Neil, I think you should put your Clyde build on here also. :-) :-))
-
I hope it comes back up too, such a shame to see it down! I don't come on here anymore as I got fed up with pm's from uptight people who took what I said the wrong way. Not tarring everyone with the same brush on here, but there were (when I used to come on here) mods who really shouldn't have been. Just not my cup of t and I wish you all the best of luck with Mayhem.
I came here trying to find out what happened to RCMB. Please guys-we really appreciate what you guys do, especially Rich, please start it up again!
Matt

How old was he? 2, 12 can't have been much older to throw his toys out of the pram like that! Anyway I would like to say a big thankyou to the site that I found during a difficult time when I had been signed of work with stress, I found everyone to be friendly and really enjoyed watching the build blogs. No matter how silly any question was then somebody would give an answer.
I will certainly rejoin if a similar site is set up.
Best Wishes

Any Forums who do that are not worth Joining.. IMHO. (Although it does look like you deletion was down to an act of mindless attitude rather than the resident Management team..)

sadly he[the owner] was of the opinion that if someone hadn't posted or not posted within 3 months he/she was not really welcome as a member.
in the early days of the forum when i was a mod on the site.we had endless battles with him about deleating members, sadly he had autocratic power, similar to a dictator.
i am however pleased with the support that the lads on this forum have given to the fledgling site, and would love to see a similar small site restart.

unfortunately as Andy was the guy that set up the site the host company cannot legally transfer any of the data from the site to anyone else. I think the one thing to come out of this is that when a new site is set up make sure you can make back-ups of it and take a back up every week or two.
Trawlerphotos is set up on a professional server and we're backed up every day or two so we don't loose too much in the way of posts and photos ( 115,000+ photos is a LOT to loose... )
The server that RCMB was on could be used by who ever sets up a replacement and it may be possible to use a very similar name ( try www.radiocontrolledmodelboats.com for instance )

Well I for one can say i fell to the dictoial antics of that forum just for making a picture a member had posted to a size that could be seen and IT WAS SUPPOSED to be a FRIENDLY forum...........dont think so lol, sorry lads yes I feel sorry for everyone that worked on that site.
As for the patheticness of the site owner just trashing everyones hard work well thats DAMMED disgracefull and he should BE KEEL HAULED

I am thankful that, following the antics of the “RCMB - Owner??”... I have been posting my build blog on two sites, RCMB and of course Mayhem. I and many of us have been active on both sites and found that both sites had much to offer the boat modeller.
The sites were different:- Mayhem much larger and with plenty of helpful and knowledgeable modellers and RCMB a little ‘cosier’ also with helpful and knowledgeable modellers. We were on both sites because they were different. Both sites have their fair share of silliness, but that is to be expected on open forums, sad though it is.
I would like to think that any future site that may be born, following this debacle, will have some form of joint, or committee ownership, so that this is unlikely to happen in future. As for the previous “owner”, whom I have never, to my knowledge, met or spoken to, I hope that as he is obviously so full of it that someone will take pity and go change his diaper, it’s well overdue.
-
hi john......was beginning to have withdrawal symptoms from your build blog...glad to see you doing it on here as well.
neil. :-)) :-))
-
Hi Neil,
Many thanks for that response. :-))
I have been tardy in keeping the build blog up to date, but have progressed (although slowly) and I will be updating very soon. :D
In fact the build is nearing completion. O0
I suppose that as I only have to post on one site now there's no excuse <*< <*<
Keep your eye on the relevant place :-)

will do mate, and look forward to seeing it.

I have joined, but am a little concerned as to who is running the site. Any body got any ideas?? :police:

Trying to register but asks for confirmation code is this sent by email, cannot ask on forum as not registered and need code the box to the left has a red cross in it should there be a code displayed in it any help appreciated
-
Colin,
I'm having the same problem, little red cross in the box asking for confirmation code.
Jimmy
-
The code is on the RC boats forum in broken up lettering to stop automatic readers from copying.
You have to click on the RC boats address given in your email and this will send you direst to the page.
I've also joined to show my support. It looks a nice 'clean cut' web site. Seems easy to operate for this old geezer. %)
Ken

For those who are using the link posted up top... it belongs to me ... (it will eventually have a proper domain name if interest is there for that expense)
You guys will have to bare with me while i re-build it for you, its not an over night job believe it or not. Once open then i will hand it back to Rich if he wants it, if not it will be up for grabs to someone who i think is suitable to run it, the site will remain under my name and i will purchase the domain if interest is there to keep it running, but original ownership will remain with me so i know it will not get closed down in a hissy fit!
-
Needs handing back to Rich, so long as he wants it...
-
For those having issues with password/code problems please check your 'spam' folder for the activation link as it may be in there, but please give it time not all email system respond instantly!
Also be aware then when entering the 'code' that the top box is your password confirmation the greyed out box is for the spam code you see on screen, if you type that code in the password confirmation box your going no where fast.
I have just tried the system and its working fine as long as you read the page :-))
-
cheers mate will try again, but not getting that code up anywhere.
I'll persevere, lol
-
so will I,
Jimmy
-
If that codes not showing up on your screen then i have no clue why, as you can see its working fine for me!
Try clearing your browsers cache make sure you have flash player installed the norm for issues such as this!
-
RR,
Not getting at you mate, it's probably my end I'll sort it out eventually.
Jimmy
-
can you tell me how you do it, when you do jimmy, as i'm a complete numpty as far as computers are concerned.at the mo, i'm just getting a little box with a red cross where the code should be.
cheers, neil.
to be honest.i don't even know what RR means by "turning my browsers off" never mind knowing how to, i am that bad {:-{ {:-{ {:-{ {:-{ {-) {-) {-)
-
Stick a 'Vintage Boats' section on the site, and you might get a number of people.
There have been several attempts to start up a vintage section on other sites, like RC Groups, and the moderators there have turned them down. So there is a constituency out there looking for a home...
-
Neil pm me your E-Mail address and check it in 5 mins! you be able to log in then!
-
thanks mate.on it's way now.
cheers, neil.

Tried to register but as with others cant see a code to enter as the code box just shows a red x
-
i think that its IE8 that's causing the issues ( ie8 sucks donky balls anyway) try using google chrome of firefox issue will vanish! not only that everything will be faster too!
-
Mikearace,
Do what I did try accessing using another computer, if you haven't got one give me a pm with your email address and password and the user name you would like to use and I will do it for you.
Jimmy

I think your right, I registered using my wife's Mac laptop which uses Safari to access the interweb so no problems.

-
Road runner. I will be joining your new Forum. Can i say thank you for starting it. Im sure that few of us know
how much work you must have put in to get it up and running. May it thrive along with Mayhem. Thanks John.
-
Well done and hope there is a continued link between the two forums.
:-)) :-))
-
I would like to think that can happen and will do my up most to ensure both forums can work together.
But we should not forget that its people like Martin that spend the time and money to keep these places open for us to have our natters, last thing i want is to step on his toes with my boots after all hes offered so much for so little, least i can do is show him the respect he deserves. After all i'm a Proud member of MBM and will continue to be one regardless :-))
-
True, and I did wonder why the two sites could not now be merged/amalgamated thereby avoiding the hissy fit dilemma.
Martin is obviously stable, level headed a bit mayhemish maybe. ;) ;)
After all, pooling of catergories, resources, moderators, ideas etc and avoidance of duplication is always a plus.
Just an idea and never too late.
-
Although true to every word and i would be in agreement, i must point out that, that could be said of every other forum out there to compile into one, but i honestly believe with this one being re-opened it comes down to a different breed of people wanted to take part.
I am as most know, fricking nuts so mayhem suits me just fine, where as others are after the 'quite life' so a forum fitting for them should be taken into consideration, And this explains why i offered to reset the forum for those people who wanted it.
My aim is to make sure the two forums can work together in harmony rather them be competitors I would hate to see that occur it leaves bad taste in everyone mouths!
I must also point out that many members here are not just dedicated to mahyem i am also members of 2 other forums ( excluding the one i have just re-built) and post there regularly too and yet i still find the time to post here and show my support to Martin the forum & its members.
:-))
-
Good luck roadrunner, always room on 'tinternet for like minded people to share ideas.
I've found with this Forum that it has gone through many growing pains, evolutions, surgical procedures but if you
have a clear goal in mind, members will see your ethos and accept is or reject it but either way, they'll need to know
'what's what' and I recommend mutual respect must be made a priority from the outset.
Running a forum long term requires the 'patients of Job', but it's worth it.
Martin - Mayhem Admin.
-
Thanks Martin, support like yours makes the venture seam possible, with out it, i would be fighting a loosing battle :-))
-
Running a forum long term requires the 'patients of Job'
Also requires a decent spile chunk {-)

Although both RCMB's and Mayhem cover Model boats they are like chalk and cheese they can happily exist along side each other there is no point in joining them most folk are members of both and use each for different reasons.

Is there a backlog of "signees" ? I have no received a confirmation email although when trying again to join, I was told "the username is already taken". {:-{ {:-{ <:(
-
I'm so very pleased to see that R C M B will be like the proverbial Phoenix rising from the ashes of RCMB...well done to Roadrunner for taking the task on.
I did give the matter of restarting the forum some serious thought, but decided against it...I have more than enough to do with the AMS forum and website, plus I've now taken on the job of AMS Secretary, so that's the main reason that I didn't. Oh, and I'd also like the time to build a sub or two...
Gentlemen, I wish you all the very best with the new forum, long may it run under it's new management. I sincerely hope it goes from strength to strength...good luck to all of you who sail in her.
Fair winds and calm seas...
Rich

Is there a backlog of "signees" ? I have no received a confirmation email although when trying again to join, I was told "the username is already taken". {:-{ {:-{ <:(
I've turned confirmation emails off along with the spam code, as so many people seam to have issues with this, once the names registered you can log straight in with the username you provided and password.
If you still can't log in pm me and i will look into it, however if the username is taken by someone else other then you, nothing i can do about it but say pick a new name!
-
NB. Roadrunner, use StopForumSpam, I've had hundreds of spoofing attacks in the last week!
-
Thanks for that Martin :-)) i hope not to have to use it .. but i have a feeling its going to come in handy!
''We currently have 4182637 spammer records in our database'' that's a lot of spam! anyone got a fork? :D

The Paddleducks web site is also under attack at the present moment and Not accepting registrations because of the danger.
They have traced it to Russia or one of the satellite countries. So it's best to be on your guard.

Well the site is now fully up and running and 99% of the bugs removed.
I'm buying the domain end of the month so watch out for the link change in 2 weeks but i will post it then.
Thanks to all that have supported me with this project, all i ask now is you get posting and help restore what was lost, shouldn't take long if we all pull together. :-))

Seen this a few times in the past with Trawlerphotos and we have a trick that sometimes helps
If your getting an error message for the site when using the link and your using windows do this
Click on START then RUN , copy and past the following into the box
ipconfig /flushdns
now click OK
That should clear the local settings and let you back on the site

I've turned confirmation emails off along with the spam code, as so many people seam to have issues with this, once the names registered you can log straight in with the username you provided and password.
If you still can't log in pm me and i will look into it, however if the username is taken by someone else other then you, nothing i can do about it but say pick a new name!
I have tried a few times again to log in but I just keep getting an error message..........................."You have specified an incorrect or inactive username, or an invalid password".
I am defo using the same name and password as I registered with. ????? {:-{ {:-{

When did you register. It may be that if it was today, the system is taking a little time to authorize you...

Ok. I think it best if I just re-register with another name. Might save any hassle. :-)) :-)

Further to that, I just tried to re-register with a new username and (lo and behold) I says my email address is already taken. So even if I could register, I would need a new email as well. {:-{ {:-{
