Try that again in the Queens English...

Do you want to paint them with colour or to lacquer them with clear coat to keep the original brass finish?

If painting with colour, a base primer coat then top coat of colour of any brand, enamels or acrylics will do in any finish,(matt, satin, gloss) then a clear coat.

If just wanting a clear coat on the brass then any an enamel clear coat (01 from revel) is very good, gloss, satin and matt finishes are available.

All can be used with a paint brush.

But you can't beat spraying on smaller items such as stanchions if done right, paint tends to go on to thick at times and can make a nice looking rail look like its had 100 years of paint!

Or you can leave them as is.. and once they start to get dirty use a dremel and its buffing head, some rubbing compound and just buff them back out to that shine.

Fer keeping the brass new looking and polished back in stone age metalwork class, we used clear cellulose (Dope/clear nail varnish). Needs to be polished and then cleaned in Acetone before coating.

Is nail lacquer still solvent based? If so, it may well attack the paint at the base of the stanchion.
