Title: Optic 6 conversion without using a plug in module

The reason for this mod is purely aesthetic and as this was a spare unit that I had no intentions of using on either 35mhz or 40 mhz it made a good candidate for some tinkering,I didn't want the antenna sticking out of the module look ( especially upside down ! ), so 15 - 20 mins and a FrSky hack module results in a far better looking transmitter in my opinion. This is how I achieved it, there are probably better ways !.

This conversion is very simple and requires minimal soldering. The V8HT module sits nicely between the sticks and is mounted with sticky Velcro, take care to position it high enough so as to clear the old antenna mounting screw located on the back half of the case.

The new antenna mount is secured to the existing guide using two washers, attach the antenna loosely before tightening the nuts in order to keep things central, a drop of cyno (not essential) keeps it all in place.

Two holes drilled in the top of the case, two bits of brass rod soldered to the bind pcb and some quick set epoxy locates the switch/led assembly.

The options for electrical connections are either to solder to the module pcb, solder to the main pcb or as I did unplug the module pcb, cut the wire and solder the original harness to the new module.
Red - Red  +ve
Black - Black  -ve
White - Yellow  signal
( Colours may not be the same - CHECK FIRST- don't forget the heat shrink ).

I removed the old 35mhz module from it's case, then replaced the empty case to fill in the hole, power up and test, then re-assemble the transmitter.

In case anyone is confused by the lack of lcd display in the first pic,the transmitter battery went flat just as I took the photo (excellent timing !).

I like the Optic 6 - a very good Tranny for the money!
.... and now with a 2.4GHz module, a good, cheap option!

Where did you get your module?

Giantcod is the one I used, excellent service - turned up next day . I bought the tx module with 4 receivers, two are now fitted in aircraft ( in fact i flew a panic today almost out of sight without a glitch ) one is fitted in a boat and the other is spare. All four receivers bound first time.

Must get back to the little Seaport conversion, new updates this week perhaps !.

Well he already has the Optic 6 and maybe already used to it.
I would venture to say the Optic 6 has a better pedigree.....

I've owned a Optic 6 for years, use it to fly and sail with, I just prefer the  "feel" to other makes, in fact I've got a FF6 Limited edition on 40mhz that hasn't seen daylight for years.
I bought a brand new Optic with battery and 35mhz module from one of the traders at wings & wheels - £30.00  :-)) - now I have two !, but aside from that, Hitec do their own plug in 2.4 conversion thingy now that sort of  puts the antenna in the correct place -
