I am in need of some help please?, I can not get my T5 TX to charge it's batteries in situ. {:-{ I have tried using a Smart charger and a conventional type of charger but no joy.
Has anybody had the same problem and if so can you explain what you did to get round it. This has probably been asked before but can not see it on here.

The Planet T5 has a centre pin on the jack that is Negative rather than Positive, check you are not charging with a Positive pin charger. Most smart chargers cannot charge through a jack socket as there is a diode inline with the battery box to avoid reverse charging ( this can happen!) . This prevents the intelligent chargers from detecting the battery.

Thanks for that unbiltnautilus, both of my chargers are set up so they can charge either centre Positive or Negative. The diode would explain why the smart charger did not work. Have been inside and all connections to the charging socket are ok it has me puzzled mate, do you know were this diode is on the T5 as can not see it mind eye site is not up to these small bits anymore.

I dont know where this diode is, it is usually surface mounted on the board, other than that, not sure. Silly question, your chargers are able to charge a 4 cell 4.8V set up?

I have a Propeak Constellation charger and just change the pins over to reverse the polarity to the transmitter and have never had a problem charging the 2300 nimh I have fitted into it.

Check the plug is the right size for the socket
A 2.5 mm power plug will usually fit a 2.1 mm socket but does not always make contact with the centre pin

Well where to start with the replies. :-))
Thanks to you all for the suggestions, the charger in use can charge from 2 - 10 cells at 500ma or 1000ma both selectable from separate rotary pots. The batteries are 2100mAh as for the jack plug have not taken much of a look as it is a good fit in the socket but will take the point re size and my assuming all is making contact. will get a 2.1mm plug and try that. john44 it's nice to know that the Propeak works will see if any of my club mates have one I can try, can I also ask you if you got your set just as they came out or was it a recent purchase please?.
If that lot does not work then as a last resort will give the supplier a ring for suggestions.

Hi there Broken Neck, I had the radio set when they just came out. I did,nt realise the charging jack plug polarity was reversed on these transmitters until I read the instructions, but with the pro-peak I just swapped the red & black plugs over on the charger jack plugs when charging This transmitter.
and swap them back again straight after for normal use. ( the pro -peak I have had for 5 years).

Hi Guys,
I think you will find that the charging socket's centre pin is 1.6mm so no use using anything larger as it wont make contact.

I just solder a jack plug to the receiver out put on a normal futaba charger works well

I just put 4 good quality Alkaline cells in it. They last a season, unless you sail every day and you can keep an eye on the voltage all the time, must be cheaper than Nimhs and chargers. ( Sounds like a song! Nimhs and Chargers come away, come away, Nimhs and Chargers come come away!! You can tell I sang in a Choir as a lad!!)
