Have just joined MBM after many many years of building and flying large model aircfaft, mostly petrol powered up to 150cc and 3 metre span.

Due to loss of flying sites and degrading eyesight I have decided to build a model boat.
To this end I have ordered an Amati Riva Aquarama kit. This is partly due to the fact that I would like to give it to my 2 young grandsons that I dote on and partly because I have been lucky enough to drive on of these beautiful things.
I have used brushless outrunner motors in model aircraft and wondered if this would be feasable for the Riva. Having looked at some videos on YouTube of the model in the water they seem to go like pigs, no where near the full size.
My question is this.

What would be the best power setup including speed controllers, ( with reverse ), and also the type of propshafts to use.
Are stern tubes available for models and P brackets with bearings or will I have to use the very non scale model prop shafts ?

Any help that you experienced modellers would be much appriciated.

Welcome Mike, the scale and size of the model would be helpful.

Hello Dicky.
Its the standard Amati kit 85 cm loa.
Don't know the scale but the full size  varied between 8.02 mand 8.78 mtrs LOA so thats about 10% scale.

All modellers wishing to build this as an R/C model can use the kit expressly designed for it following the instructions given on the booklet.
The optional motor/transmission set is available separately under part number A1608/02 this includes: 2 electric motors, 2 gear boxes, 2 complete shafts and stern tubes, 2 propellers, 2 complete tillers, electronic speed controller.

Scale is 1:10

Have had a look at the Amati motor / trans pack. A lot of money for what you get, also, brushed motors not brushless
and is a scale Aquarama quite right with red plastic rudders and black plastic props ?
