Title: Run time (part 2)
Post by: Patrick Henry on August 07, 2011, 07:07:24 am
Sort of following on from 'running time' ...

I've just bought this from that  well known auction site (http://s3.postimage.org/1av3wt004/cruiser_2.jpg) (http://postimage.org/image/1av3wt004/)

It's very similar to the Krick "Lisa M" in hull shape, and measures 890mm in length....would one of you more knowledgeable types recommend a motor and battery pack combination for it, please?

I'd like to think I could get around an hour's worth of sailing with it(longer would be a bonus)mainly pottering about, interspersed with a quick blast up and down the lake now and again.

Standing by...

A nice little 1000 kv 22 mm outrunner, 30 -40 mm prop and a 7.4 volt 4000 mah li-po.

Would that require a special esc?

Just a normal Brushless ESC

Thanks Nick, much appreciated...so you think that the brushless/lipo combination is the way to go?

Could be, A "Speed 500 E"  direct or any other speed 500 geared to give the same RPM at 7.4 would work which is about 7500 RPM at 7.2/4 volts. If you put in a faster motor, say a Speed 500 BB SP 7.2 or 8.4 the run time would be less dependant on use of the throttle  :-)) Speed 600 of an appropriate voltage (14,4 Volt version) would work as well just extra weight.

Ok, thanks again Nick...I'll go take a good look around the Giant Cod website.

Well, it's just arrived...by heck, but it's big. The website states it's 890mm in length, oal when the railings and the dingy on the stern davits are fitted is a tad under a metre.

The instructions (in Czech-ese) call for 2 x Speed 600BB's on 2 x 9.6v 4000a/h cell packs...no little brushless motors, I'm afraid. (or does anyone have any ideas on this?)

I normally use the power train the manufacturer suggests, after all they designed the thing.

Makes a change for them to tell you what to use . :-))

Go Up to a 28 mm If your worried, I would probably go up to a 30 amp ESC for each motor as well, Speed 600 BB is about 1700 Kv and about 50 watts at peak efficiency.

Looks like a nice boat, not so sure of the gaudy stickers though.
