HI! everyone newbie to ships/boat, but some experience with r/c planes. Recently purchased the above used and tested model through ebay, unfortunately paid over the top for what i though was a full function model. Having briefly dry tested it appears that there is no rudder control and all i get are the two props turning. Have i completely missed something or is this the case. If so then i guess model will require modification and a rudder system installed. Information on the supplied transmitter says "full function radio control". I know it is "buyer beware" but i guess it isnt unreasonable to be able to steer a r/c boat. At the point of seeming really foolish, have i missed something really obvious. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
Many thanks

Have you looked inside the model ? Check for a rudder servo.
If there isn't one then maybe it's controlled by independent propellers control.

thanks Ken, just looked at the two prop shafts. they are housed in what looks like an azipod structure, but they are fixed. There are no actual rudders on the boat, so you can see my dilemma, thanks for coming back to me

Steering by speeding up one prop and slowing down the other springs to mind.
-
thanks Richard, just checked out, both props work together, no independant control. Ill keep searching, many thanks

I'm sure those ready to run RNLI Severn's work on kind of 'tank steering'. They aren't fitted with a rudder, that I do know. Should work if sold as running though?? Sorry I can't be of more help, Dave. {:-{

It might have a mixer which means you would have one control for throttle and another control for turning.
This would alter the speed of each prop when the turn control is used along with the throttle one. :-))
-
The RNLI RTR models are rudderless and steer by 'tank' steering as Number 6 has suggested.
-
If its as i belive the Rnli boat then its basic control by either stopping or reversing motors.as needed. At least thats how mine works. If all else fails you could convert to one or two internal motors driving props and fit a rudder. Good luck. John.

thanks everyone for your help, looks like a conversion on the books

Is it the baby Severn? With White motor pods? It steers by reversing 1 motor like a tank.
Have a look at going for a jet drive conversion. Not got any videos at the moment but it's really good, should be taking it down the lake this weekend so will try and get a video!

This one?
( do a search from the home page for Baby Severn )

My son has one of these. Very prone to seizing up motors when put away for periods of storage, so a precautionary drop of wd40 helps. I am just about to try a conversion to rudder and single prop.
They are a lovely little model and were readily available at around £45 a while ago, I was amazed at what they fetch now .....i saw one on eBay and the guy wanted £150 buy it now! Thankfully didnt look like it sold!

Thanks Jim, forum gave me the answers i needed, will probably still do a conversion. Have another model arriving soon for parts or conversion, so will use it as my learning model. Thanks for the note re lubrication. :-)
