Hi guys, I need to pick someone's brains about modding a "Smit Rotterdam" kit tug to use it for towing. I have no experience of towing but I would very much like to get into it. I assume that the stock model of the Rotterdam is fine for sailing but not equipped for towing.
All help/advice/suggestions will be gratefully received. :-)) :-) :-)
Regards, Bill

Well, ..................it seems I dont need any help, or nobody has the knowledge required, so I need to go it alone, or go back to heli flying where help is abundantly available. %)
Thanks all. :-))

The handy Search function will bring up a number of threads on how to attach bollards to the deck, how to make a working winch and how to set up a gog eye to prevent the tug from being capsized by the tow.
The minimum requirements would be to make a secure tow-attachment point that is bolted thru the deck to a reinforcement plate and use cast brass propellers for less power loss.

Hi Wibplus.
I did send you a PM With the suggestion of coming to Balne Moor this w/end, Then you can get some info from the towing lads they would show the things you need to do to make it safe when towing, different tugs different ideas.

Thanks John, I do intend making the trip to Balne Moor this weekend. I will be bringing my notebook and camera for good measure. Cheers, Bill :-)
