Title: Newbie advice
Post by: GJP on October 16, 2011, 06:47:18 am
Hi to all members of this forum,

My name is Glen and I am a new member.

Seriously though, hi to all. I am new to this boat building however I have been a keen modeller since childhood and I am in the process of building my first boat, "the Lisa M" by Krick.

I have a couple of questions I need help with:

1)Where in Leeds west York's is there to run a boat of this type?

2)Can I spray the ABS hull of the boat with Acrylic paints?

Many thanks in advance.

Hi glen, either water based or thinners based acrylics are fine to use so long as you wash and lightly sand the hull for a better key (grip).
You really cant hurt the hull using water based but if you do use thinners based (automotive type) build your coats up very lightly or the thinners will start eating the hull.
I have a smit nederland with a very thin abs hull that I sprated with automotive 2 pack about 20 years ago and it still looks like I sprayed it yesterday.
Hope this helps.
