Hi all this is my latest tug build .
SUN II was built in 1965 by Charles D Holmes & co Beverly.
She worked mainly in the docks at London.

I would like to see the photos that you used to build her with but I don't think she is Sun ll, more like Sun XXll :embarrassed:

Great model, I remember these from my childhood. Dad worked for BICC in Belvedere & we used to go to their landing stage & watch these going up & down the Thames. Also used to cycle to Erith and watch them off the front there.

I think brianB6 is right, though. Looking at the website for Thames Tugs, it appears that Sun II was built in 1909 by Earles Ltd of Hull, whereas Sun XXII, which yours seems to be, was built by Philip and Son Ltd, of Dartmouth in 1960.
However, none of this changes the fact that yours is a lovely model - well done.

Hi all and thanks for your coments,the Sun II and Sun III are smaller than the Sun XXII they had no flying bridge.
The mast could also be lowered to go under the bridges if you look at the pictures above the model you can see the diffrence.

That era of Thames tugs were very attractive and you have constructed a terrific model.

That's a beautiful model. I'm guessing plank on frame construction with fiberglass skin?

A really beautiful model, I remember her working, built for the upper small London docks, I believe they where fitted with an extra big rudder for manoeuvrability, so some of the sun tugs crews told me at the time. My old man worked as a chief engineer with Sun tugs when he came out of the Andrew. Only pity is she does not have the original Sun tug colours on the Funnel. Apart from that a great model.

Who designed a tug with a funnel so big it hindered the view aft ?
The Naval Corps of Constructors come to mind.
That said Proper looking tugs and a fine model

Hi Brian they did look the same .
She was all scratch built ,the hull is fibreglass from a mold i had she is 40 inch by 12inch beam.
The motor is a 12v bosh fan motor direct drive with 70 mm prop.
The rest was all built from wood, there was no plan just photos from my brother who worked on her.
