Title: 10 Hatch Coaster Bridge layout
Post by: Pointy on May 04, 2006, 08:46:08 pm
Hi,

I want to add some internal detail for the Model Slipway Coaster but have no idea of the bridge layout, I've looked on the 'net and books but still not sure, does anyone out there have any ideas/advise/web address? For example would ships like this still have a wheel, if so would it be attached to a console right under the bridge windows or would it be stepped back from the console and towards the centre of the bridge?

Any help would be merciful as I'm going nuts.... ???

Have you tried doing a google search based on the ship's previous and current names? Tedious I know but you may strike it lucky!

Yep, some interesting external shots and even a wreck(!) but nothing internal, thanks anyway!

Most modern ships have the "wheel" set back from the bridge windows on a centre console.
The wheel is now like an aircraft control column wheel on most newer vessels as there is plenty of redundancy in the electro/hydraulic steering system.
Older vessels still have a wheel, which is to drive the hand pumps during power failure.
The central console usually has read outs for the engines and propulsion system and throttle controlls.
Any controlls near the windows are usually for winch controlls, fire monitor directing equipment and thrusters.
Hope this is of some help, but is only a generic answer.

Pointy,  imagine yourself in the bridge, imagine how many people would be there, and situate things where you think they would go.
