Title: Two 385's on 1 ESC?
Post by: bikerdude666 on November 15, 2011, 11:05:42 am
I bought a couple of 385 motors at weekend, and I have a spare mtroniks viper 10 and viper 20 esc, was wondering if anyone knew if the motors would be ok on together on the 10 amp or should i put them with the bigger 20 amp esc? thanks

I would go for the larger amps.  You never know if a prop might get caught up in weeds and stall.  Not forgetting to fuse the lines separatly in case.

ive got three 400`s on a mtroniks 25 without a problem, you need to consider your props carefully though

I was advised to use plastic 3-blade 30-35mm props. Thanks I'll use the bigger of the 2 esc's, not whether to attempt to make my own prop shafts or buy some.

What 385's? They do come in different winds. The 385's MFA supply are very mild motors , even under heavy load they pull under an amp of current, so a true 10A controller shouldn't even break into a sweat with a pair of those running.

35mm props sounds a bit large for the 385's to directly drive.

Got them from ACTion, think they're MFA, should be 10 proper amps, its an Mtroniks, not had a problem with them before, I've got a couple of 30mm 3 blade props so I was going to try them out and see how it went, unless you think even a 30mm will be too big?

Might be okay. I'd say 30mm would be the upper limit for those motors. Depends on pitch of the props etc.

Whilst I'm not exactly the greatest at setting up R/C hardware and so not really qualified to give advice  :}, my USN subchaser has two 540-type motors (not sure of the exact type as they were salvaged from a RTR boat) controlled by a Mtroniks 15 ESC, and I've never had any problems with it. However, I should add that I rarely run it anywhere near maximum throttle (which is way over scale speed) and it only has 25mm props. But two 385s on a 10amp ESC should be no problem; as other posters have mentioned, though, 30-35mm props might be a bit big for 385s. What type of boat are you putting them in, and what sort of speed are you planning on running it?

Big, wide flat bottom hull, want to get best speed out of it as possible, so it'll probably be on full throttle most of the time! so I'll have a look for some 20-25mm props. Thanks,
