Title: Can Any One Tell Me
Post by: sentry on November 22, 2011, 06:46:31 pm
Hello Gent's
Can any one tell me if they have used a un-geared motor on the Model Slipway "Dutch Courage" Tug as am about to receive one and did,nt really wanted to use geared motors as I,ve been informed must are noisy, but as the prop shafts are fairly low in the hull I think I may have to bit the bullet and use them.
                         Regards Howard.

I dont know if youd regard this as gearing but you could use a one to one belt drive to drop down to the prop shaft or could you build in a little more angle into the propshafts to enable direct drive.Possibly using longer shafts and mounting the motors ferther forewards with a slight upward slant of the shafts could work.John.

Hi Howard,
Un-geared motors worked very well on the of couple Dutch Courage's that i built
have a look at the T12 motors from Mobile marine models and the existing shafts.

Thank you for the replies Gent's and the photo's Jenno, are the motors and the shafts in a straight line or are they cranked over a bit I like MMM T12 motors and there just down the road from me but thought they,ed be  to big to line up with the shafts.
                           Regards Howard.

Yes the motors and the shafts are in a straight line, and no they're not "cranked over" i've fitted them in both the Mustang and EDT Zenon and they work very well as i've said.

See Mustang above and the EDT Zenon below
