I would imagine (no experience) that it was a switch (or slowstart ?) that is driven by the receiver.
Try plugging it in to a channel and connect an Ohm meter across the two wires. Measure the connection points when you operate the radio.

mole technology were electric flight specialists some years ago, so would think along those lines, probably a soft start switch for the motor. simple off on. best guess.

We know the plug goes into the R/X
Therefore the other two wires must be controlled to short out. Until you've metered them with ohms we're not gonna know. Don't panic Mr Mannering. Try it first please.

It's a totally sealed case, Andy...no way in or out, no joins visible anywhere. Very much like a monolith...
Ken...I'll give it a try later, fear not. I'm just wondering though, where does it get it's power from?

Just think of it as a switch in one of the leads from battery to motor /lights/servo etc. If you haven't got a meter just connect one end to a battery and the other to a lamp on the pos and a straight lead on the neg and when activated the lamp should light. simples

The power for the electronics inside would come from the receiver plug. The two other leads are likely just switch a positive or negative feed. If it's relay based you could try plugging the receiver lead in with some power to the receiver. If it's relay based you may be able to hear it clicking on and off when you operate the appropriate channel with your transmitter.
But it's probably transistor based, so you won't hear squat, which means you need the ohm meter as mentioned.

There was a guy in Jersey making a similar box. His had three wires which was very helpful as it acted as a two way switch. Push the T/X lever up and the centre wire joined to one wire. Pull the lever down and the centre wire switched over and joined the other wire. Very handy.
I believe the connections stayed joined until the T/X was pushed up and down again. (hey, it's not easy describing this electric stuff !!)

Thats called latching Ken. OK for lights etc The other is momentarily OK for horns and whistles etc
