Crane Barge / Weed Cutter / Boot Retrieval system. Hull is made from 10millimeter thick marine plywood with the bow section sealed by a solid bulkhead, there is a second bulkhead in the centre of hull, dividing hull into three watertight sections. The box on stern (or container) has two uses, When empty it = Bouyancy . When crane is lifting heavy loads water is pumped in to counterbalance load. The weed cutter is a modified hedge trimmer, Fitted to a long drive shaft with motor fitted at top end of it, This allows it to be raised and lowered at will, depending on depth of water, It clamps to side of hull, And when not in use, it swivels under hull and comes up behind stern. It can also be removed easily, The boat retrieval system is operated by the crane, which lowers a large weighted net into water, Then you steer barge up to casualty and lift up net with boat inside. The crane can lift 35lbs with jib flat level with deck, When jib is upright it is considerably more.
Specs.
Crane jib height = 60inch when folded down 30inch
Load capacity = Straight ought level with deck =35lbs
Upright = Unknown at least 80lbs+
Depends on number of pulleys used on lift cable
Battery power =12volt 620 Amps = part of ballast
Hull size = Beam 30inch
= Length 64inchs
Depth of side panels = 8inch
= Weight at 4inch draught 273lbs. 1 inch =68lbs
Motors = Two direct drive to 75mm Korts 4 blade props
= Two bow thrusters, 60mm Korts 6 blade props
= Three large crane winch motors, = converted windscreen wiper
motors
= A powerful water pump to fill balance water tank
Electrics =I will not comment on this subject, study the photos? It might look complicated but is very basic, All switch boards are easy to remove for maintenance, if required. I find Micro Switches, Relays, And my oil cooled resistors very reliable, They might be old fashioned but they don’t blow up at the smallest problem,

Wow..awesome machine... :-))
-
Wow, fantastic you could hire out your services with that rig. :-))
-
Now that's a real man model boat!
Next time you use the Weed cutter, take a video clip for us! :-))

MARTIN. Thankfully at this time of year we dont get any weed growing in our lakes its to cold. When in use not much to see , only shaft and motor hanging on side of hull. It was a hedge trimmer in a past life, using just the cutter bar and gearbox, modified to fit onto a long drive shaft which clampes to a swiveling bracket fitted to side of hull

Thats really Nice!!
smart use of the electrics, that "old" stuff is cheap and reliable..
I have to ask though..What is the superstructure made of,and how is it anchored to the hull?
35lbs on that bridle is wanting to pull that wheel house off, roughly 175ft/lbs of torque on that sucker.

great inspiration.. :-))

More Coffee Top is made from same sheet of ply as hull 10mm thick marine grade. It is held on by angel brackets, front is screwed to deck, rear is bolted to take force loadings of lifting load. After removing 2 nuts under rear deck + 2 screws at front and 4 screws that hold the pulley block assembly on top of structure, it can be removed leaving crane still rigged, the fixing brackets are concealed by boxes

In the photos, one shows my buoyancy system, that is the green plastic drums, two are taped together these are trapped under super structure above deck level if it sinks hull should stay up write there are more drums in bow section

Stunning model, love the size of her :-)) Its such a good idear duno why other people havnt done it before ( this size )

All I can say is, if you happen to be passing Strathaven Pond in the summer. Make sure you bring this monster with you, as we could make make good use of the weedcutter.

GEIDS coming up to Motherwell from Norfolk towing trailer and crane is a long day out, but we do get lost sometimes.

This is how I move and transport my crane barge with very little effort to me.

Again thats a really good idear :-)) Its given me an idear for my 1/12 tid tug when shes done, was wondering what would be the best way to move n launch her :-)
-
Ya built a jib crane to move it,now thats an Idea.. I'll have to look at..
Im planning an 8ft ferry and was thinking of uising a system that ambulances and funeral homes use to load off load on a gurney.

Hi to Offshore 1987 and More Coffee, thanks for interest in trailer launch system, i use it with my larger models, The trailer is also used to carry my MOOR--- - - K tug which is 1inch = ifoot the Trailer has a longer tow bar fitted which goes all the way, to back of trailer, the rear tailgate is lowered and fixed level with floor. Tug boat is much larger in size but wheighs about the same without its water ballast in. Trailer allso has a slide out box section bar that fitts inside tow bar this allows tug to be launched like life boats down slipway, when this method is used the crane is removed to keep down wheight. The box section bar is not normaly carried.
