regards
Bill :-))

Hi Billa65t
No Plans just photographs & 1 line drawing which I printed up to 1/32 scale . The measurements of the ship you can get off the company website, details were obtained from the photographs as the builders would not part with a copy of the plans. I can send you what I have if you want? The hull is made from builders pink foam and fibreglassed the superstructure is all plastic card 2mm & 1.5mm.

Hi destroyer , i have built one of these SDM's using two schottle drives , the only thing that concerns me with yours is the position of the drives .
When i built my first hull i fitted the drives in opposit corners and in line down the hull but found it very difficult to control as the model wanted to spin on its axis ,
in the end i settled on both drives up front side by side with a large skeg (fixed rudder) at the rear for a stabilizer (tractor drive) .
This has proved very effective and is like it's on rails , ok it wont go sidesways but it will go forwards and back very precicely and turn within its own length.
The only downfall is the power , i only made enough room for 1 12v 7ah battery , so i have to change it after about 20 mins running/work.
Have a look and see what you think.

A proper SDM in drydock. ;)
One drive forward starboard, one stern port
Also, the hole in the skeg allows for proper steering.
If the hole is not through the skeg, then steering force will be deflected off the skeg till the
schottel drive is almost perpendicular to the centerline, and the tug will leap into starboard turns
rather than steering gently.

Hello
I fully agree with Umi and a SDM must be built with all skeg arrangement. I think it's a pity to build a SDM as a tractor tug like Portside II .
If you want a tractor tug built a tractor but if you choose a SDM built it as SDM. It's not the same way to sail it and really very funy as RC ship to have a SDM.

hello, nice boat ,but where did you find the plans for it?
-
Oh right pick on me time lol :} the tractor configuration works well .
But like Umi said in the standard configuration the schottles will work as in the full sized vessel.
Umi do you have any details on the hole shape size in the skeg?.

We stopped picking on you back in 2012... %)
However, now that you bring it up,...
The hole in the skeg can be seen in some drydock photos.
The only proportions I saw for it were from models of the MkII's.
One by Tom Denning, and another owners model of the Salvador Dali.
Ueda san placed the holes in his skegs, and said that he did not notice
a difference in handling from before, or after the hole was added.

Hi All,
My model the Salvador Dali is 1/32 scale and the skeg holes are 25mm wide X 45mm long.
The model was built using the attached line drawing and scaled to 1/32 after getting the actual sizes of the ship from the builders website.

Thanks.

The dashed hull and skeg lines are increases that I added to the hull model.
After putting all the equipment in, my model floats "on" the water line.
And the added volume gives some clearance to the graupner drives also.

Umi does anyone else make those drives I know graupner is having issues

Bauer Modelle is distibuting the drives, and has also picked up and is continuing to distibute the VS drives.

Vince had a great transaction to San Francisco Bay area.
