Title: Changing frequency of RTR

would it be a simple step of de-soldering the orginal and re-soldering another crystal in the boat and controller ?
both of my rtr models are 27.145 htz
i was hoping to change one of the frequencys so i can run the pair at the same time

If its an RTR with soldered in crystals, changing the crystals might leave a working system, but since they are usually not particularly tightly tuned, there would be little advantage - it would still respond to the entire band the same way that the factory original did.  Normally they are a low power transmitter, (recognize by the small wire aerial and small battery) and an insensitive receiver (= low cost) that makes up for that by responding to any signal in, or somewhere near, the general ban.
With thre price of modern electronics, its probably cheaper to replace the lot, if not immediately, certainly by the time you've got it working.

Without giving them to a radio engineer, with a circuit diagram, you really can't be sure what will happen.

Given that radios are so cheap nowadays, it makes more sense to buy a cheap £21 2.4Ghz set from GiantCod. Then you can be sure things will work...

eventually all 6 of my boats will be converted to 2.4ghz
however 2 of them lack rudders and so need mixers
the cost quickly starts to mount...
as it stands i have 3 boats in working order
but 2 of them are on the same frequency, although i have a bunch of 27mhz crystals lying around and i just wondered how easy it would be to change it to a different channel ( so i could run all 3 at once )

The Radiolink T4U (£26 at Giantcod) has a built-in mixer......
