Title: Royal Navy victorian buff funnel colour
Post by: explorer on March 23, 2012, 09:52:43 pm
Hi everyone,

I had a trawl through the site and came across some Royal Navy ships from the victorian era, with the buff funnel colouring, however I couldn't find any reference to who produces the buff shade ie Humbrol etc.

The colour is actually for a paddle steamer funnel from the victorian era, (described as naval yellow or columite) I have a few yellow/buffs to try, but I would like to test out the naval shade if possible.

I realise some modellers may mix up their own colour, but if anyone had any ideas/suggestions I would really appreciate it,
cheers,
Clark

White Ensign Models do a buff described as,
"suitable for funnels etc of 19th century warships.
It can be found on their website in the Colourcoats Naval Colours and then the Generic Colours and Varnishes section.
Hope this helps.

Humbrol No7 is the old RN Buff, but it is in gloss.

I have a couple of tinlets of humbrol no7, Bob, one is really old and well past its best, but the colour looks good, and the new one seems to be a slightly different shade for some reason!

It is an absolute pig to apply with a brush, I usually thin 50:50 with Humbrol Thinners.

I used the humbrol no7 colour 10/15 years ago on some waterline paddlers, (thats the old tin I was talking about!)
