I have a SkyPort 6 with a knob on the top right of the panel which is labelled Ch 6 Flap. It allows a proportional turn which stays where it is left. There is also a switch top left which is labelled Ch 5 Gear. It gives absolute movement and also stays where it is left.

Since buggering up the esc on the Tuesday nite sail i have burnt out another as well ,bover .
i have put in a known to work electronize esc from another vessel and it did F&^K all narder nuffick zilch.
and on top of that the pump in the koi pond stopped working as well so i am running on the spare , still 6 years of uninterrupted service should not really complain.
cheers

Gary, you have got me intrigued, you have fried a couple of speed controllers and now are you saying you have fried a TR as well in the same model?/or am I reading your topics on different threads wrongly. Because, if you have fried 3 speed controllers and a TR, I think we may be looking at a serious fault here. Also, what model are you fitting these speed controllers in.

Hi John
I am pretty sure its his Scharnhorst.

send for an electrician Gary
-
Hi Bluebird
no i have not cook a TX i seem to have to topics going at once.
my Scharnhorst has cooked 2 esc .
12 volt power all fused i don't know

What motors are you running in her Gary?
Bob
-
Hi Shipmate60
Scharnhorst is running a pair of direct drive fused 480's
gary r
-
? FUSED ?
and still fried the speed controllers?
I am confused. Tug

Gary, just picked up on this thread. I expect it has all been said before, BUT, the best place for the fuse is in the power line, not the motor circuits, the esc current rating should be approx twice what the motor draws under normal running conditions, and fuse ratings should be about three quarters of the esc rating. Hope this makes sense. Pete M

??? Hi guys, I always read these threads because I' a dummy when it comes to electrics. I have learnt somethings however and now I have just learnt how to be really confused..... bigH

bigh
your confused!
peterm
it runs from 12 volt battery to 20 amp fuse then 15 amp esc to power.
i ran it out of the ship on a 6 volt direct from the battery to the motor and put a meter on it & it was drawing 3.36 volts.

Gary, still trying to help. The fuse rating is too high, for a 15 amp esc, fuse should be no more than 10 Amp. When testing motor, the most important factor is the amperage the motor draws, did you mean 3.6 volts or amps? Pete M
-
I'm also confused. If you fuse the motors wont the power go through the esc before blowing the fuse ?
Richard ???
-
guys
from the 12 volt battery ---20amp fuse--- 15amp esc ---motor
tryed it today without the esc on a 6 volt & it pulled 3.36 VOLTS @the motor (1)

If the motor pulled the battery down to 3.6 volts then it is drawing a huge amount of the amp fella's, [short?]
-
Gary, to see if the motor is drawing excessive current (Amps), connect your dvm in series between the battery and the motor. On the meter use the 10 Amp and common connections. If it goes over the top, the meter internal fuse should protect the meter. Pete M
-
Gary,
2 problems.
The fuse should be less than the capacity of the speed controller to protect it.
You need the current drain of the motor(s).
As previously stated if it is pulling the battery down that far either the battery goosed or there is one big short in one or both the motors.
If the motors have been "cooked" the varnish around the armature windings can melt giving a dead short.
Try putting a continuity tester between the terminals and slowly turn the motor.
If you connect the leads together you will get a dead short reading, it should be 1 ohm or less, if motor shows this motor is goosed.

Hi guys
many thanks for all your advice so far.
i went to maplins on the way to work last nite and got to new mfa 540 all new wiring and lower value fuse's tomorrow i will connect them up to a 6volt and see what the reading is before going anywhere near another esc.
cheers

I couldn't help a wee chuckle... Our colonial Stateside cousins would immediately know the answer to this one.

Been there, done that - still had to connect it all up and play to get the answer. ???
Maybe Gary didn't have TFM
