Title: Marine ESC-50 help wanted

I have just tried to set up a recently purchased Marine ESC-50 speed controller without any success.

In the instructions it states that it's integrated Battery Eliminator Circuit powers the receiver from the motor battery

I am using an Acoms set up which has it's own battery pack connected to the receiver

In a Mtroniks controller I have in another boat I had to disconnect one of the wires and reposition another, as advised by the supplier

Do I need to do something similar with this

I ask before I damage the controller

Any advise appreciated

In a word yes. Please only use one bec. We had a chap at our club who had three bec,s in one boat. Not good news. John.

I can't remember which wire I cut and which wire I moved

Just take out the RED from the plug on the esc wire and it will work fine with the battery pack powering your receiver.

Mikes correct.If your esc is the chinese one then you are no doubt aware that their claims are not always correct. Please fuse and if i were you i would not use it at full limit. John.

Tried disconecting the re wire but still wouldn't work.

With my Mtronicks ESC I had to disconnect the red and move one of the other wires to where the red had been - this doesn't work either

Any other ideas please

From the edge of the RX board, the pins are normally in the order black (-ve), red (+ve), signal (white).  On some, black might be brown, white might be yellow.  The aim is to ensure that only one power supply is available to the RX.  There should be no need to swap any wires over on a modern radio, since as far as I know, they have all done the sensible thing and settled on a common layout.
What make/model of RX are you using?

I am using an Acoms 227fe which has black, white and red wires

The ESC has orange, red and brown wires

Orange is near enough to yellow if you squint a bit, brown will be -ve and align with the black, nearest the board edge.  I've used a lot of Acoms, and never had to shuffle any wires on either servos or ESCs.

Hi Dicky, I recently purchased 2 marine 50 amp speed controllers and on my Planet system and a friends Spectrum system
If it was plugged into channel 1 --throttle channel left stick mode 2 it would not work. If it was plugged into channel 3 elevator
it would work on the right stick. So I had to change my radio to mode 1. So that If i plugged the esc into channel 3
it would work on the left stick again.They did not work on channel 1 at all
If this is the reason yours are not working. But you will still have to remove the RED wire from your esc if you are using a separate power pack to supply the Rx

Mtronics and electronise will work on channel 1.

john
