Title: OMRA Z-class(ish) build.. Delta Z(?)
Post by: Kev_B on June 04, 2012, 03:27:22 pm
Hi.
I've had this hull lying around for years, I seem to remember it's a Delta Z or something like that, '21' keeps popping into mind too for some reason (though probably has nowt to do with it cos they were made for Z class). I know they were made by an OMRA member, seem to remember brothers, or maybe father and son....  I'm sure someone here will be able to recognise it.

Anyway... As I've recently moved and now live next to a canal I've decided to build it up with stuff I've got lying around so I can have a small boat to play with... (my others are too big for a canal.... great for speed runs but not much chance of turning them round... hahaha)
I'm going to build it to Z class spec, I've a Leo .12 and pipe sitting here so why not.
It'll be surface drive (inline rudder I'm afraid... I know I know but it's what I've got lying around) but I'm not sure what size prop I'll need. I'm presuming an X435 or possibly an X438. I've got an X437/3 but I reckon that'll be too much for the little .12... Can anyone shine a bit of light for me please...
Also, the hull has a single step, but if I aim to get the C0fG at around 30% it places it about an inch or so forward of the step, which doesn't seem right to me....
Has anyone here built and raced one of these hulls? If so please give me the benefit of your experience  :-))

Cheers
   Kev.

Hahaha... I've tried for ages to remember who it was but can't.
Can't even find any pics of the boat online.... they can't have been that bad surely....   {-)

Aaahhh... Would it be Paul or Keith Weller?
The boat Keith's holding, the Harpoon apparently, looks like a later incarnation of the one I have... it's lost the sponsons, but still has the same shape, and the strakes are shorter....

Its Paul Weller's Delta Z-ero.  There were many variations. This was taken when he ran the hull as an AA class.

Yeah I can see the similarities, all their designs are very similar aren't they.
Wonder why they stopped using the sponsons on the smaller hull....
