Title: 1/24th MTB stanchions anyone?
Post by: flag-d on April 16, 2007, 12:46:07 am
Hi All, been absent for a while, but I'm back now!  Have I been missed?  Probably not!  Here goes...

My Fairmile Type D has suffered considerably at my hands and I've damaged so many of the hand rail stanchions that I have just removed them all.  They were nice ones from Precision Controls, but white-metal, and not me-proof.  Anyone know if somebody out there does any brass (or anything other than white-metal) ones I could replace them with?

Look forward to hearing any ideas

Mike

Not sure what scale these are. They are 40mm long.

Hi Mike
I've been trying to make indestructible 1/24th scale stanchions for a while, my Fairmile B has the Precision ones and have suffered. Here's a few ideas I tried since, the RAF 1391 uses GRP 3mm rod from old fabric blinds, very strong. The RN MTB 624 uses the same material with two balls, by turning them over a file. The RN ML 100 uses the same material with three balls. The RAF 35 uses un-pulled aluminium rivets with slots cut near the top as they blunted all my drill bits, and finally the RASC Target-tower uses Reade stanchions, the taller of the two sizes, and they are just right. The bases were too big though and were cut off. Cheap too.

Regards, Christian.

hi there, have you thought of James Lane Display models, 30 Broadway Blyth, Northumberland NE24 2PP - this guy doesn't have a website;

he does brass stanchions 1/32 31 mm and 1/24 scale precision formed half wire stanchions 1.55mm 25pence each and he charges £2 postage and packing - his telephone number is 01670 352051.
