Hi guys...
i have finally plucked up the courage to post a few pictures of the boat I am building. It is scratch built from photos of old buy boats... I just liked the shape of them and wanted to do my first scratch build of something simple!! The problem I have had is there are no two the same so I can do pretty much what I like... this has posed a few decision problems at times.
The motor, shaft and couplings are in, as are the batteries... but I have taken so long over it I wouldn't mind building a kit for a bit now... Being a novice to scratch building, my brain hurts!!! Do you guys have more than one project on the go at the same time? I am thinking it might be quite theraputic to come off this for a bit and build a kit, then go back to it. It probably doesn't look that difficult to most of you guys... but its the first time I have built just from pictures! Its approximately 1/20th scale.

Where are my pictures?

Hmm... got the pictures up but they don't show big images when you click them! Could someone explain the best way to upload pics.... sorry I am sure you're all bored with this question!

Ok... Signed up to Photobucket... Link to the same pictures: http://s1054.photobucket.com/albums/s484/Lash151/

It could be that they are small pictures to start with.
I normally ensure that my pictures are approaching the 160k that is allowed on here. The ones you've posted above are half this value. Try a test run to see the effect.

Thanks Kenny... I shall try that... here goes...

Nope, thats not it either!

Well that came out nice and large.
The Mayhem picture studio does not cater for additional clicks on the pictures. You are probably thinking of Photobucket pictures. These expand on click, if they are large pictures in the first place.
Hope this helps.

Ok Kenny... that size will do fine!!! :-)

So what does a Buy boat do? Is it a lobster boat? Howard Chapelle and Harold Payson don't seem to have anything to say about them!
-
Buy Boats are local cargo vessels. They carry lumber, fuel in drums, watermelons, oysters, some might work as ferries, tour boats fishing, etc.
Some are purpose built but some used to be sailing craft, derigged with a house popped on deck. I knew of one that used to be a skipjack and another that was formerly a bugeye. Several I know used to be schooners.

Thanks Jerry... that pretty much sums it up... :-)

Here's a nice image that just popped up on Facebook. It's a buy boat doing what buy boats do - buying oysters from a oyster tonger saving the tonger a trip in to shore.

That's Annapolis Maryland in the background; the state house dome near the mast, the Naval Academy to the right.

I thought I had looked at every buy boat picture on the web but I haven't seen that one. What is perplexing is that every one you see is a bit different to the last one... no two are the same. My model has become a sort of generic Buy Boat! I think I have got the cabin wrong though... I think they nearly all stay the same width from front to back... Annoyingly one of the first ones I saw had a wider cabin at the back so I copied that but it is not a common feature. Thanks for posting that picture... its a good one. (I wish I felt confident about weathering, the older they look, the better)

Hi Mark... sorry I didn't reply sooner... its about 900mm long x about 180mm. Yes, it is interesting... I wish I could do the weathering, I think it would look good with a bit of ageing.
