Hi, just bought a nice cheddar claire steam launch with cheddar pintail vertical boiler, and it needs a replacment glass water tube as the old one has broken....i have the tube ok but when i try to get it into the upper and lower tube nuts i cannot get it to tighten up as the rubber washers are to large for it to be done up and will not fit far enough into the nuts to do up .the washers are the original ones but have also tried new washers and they seem to be to big to enter the nuts, what am i doing wrong...any help please , thank you ...alan

Alan,
It sounds as tho' you have ether increased the new glass dia or the rings are too big in dia to get the nut over them.
You don't say on your I.D. if you are in the U.K. but if so here is a link.
If you contact Blackgates ( http://www.blackgates.co.uk/ ) they do small Viton 'O' rings to suit various dia of gauge glasses.
They also supply Silicone tube for gauge glasses in 6" lengths 3mm dia to suit 4mm & 5mm glass and 4 mm tube to suit 5mm & 6mm glass, with the tube you can slice off rings with a razor blade or scalpel.
I use the silicone tube on my gauge glass and when fitted you only need to finger tighten the nut, it can help to wet the glass to slide the ring on.
In my stock box there are the 2- sizes and will last me forever and they are only a bout £1.50 each.
Hope this helps you
George.

If it's a cheddar boiler and water gauge the top nut is removed and it is replaced through there. try jerry for spares.
