Should be 2 half nuts, that's a whole nut, then a whole nut, then another 2 half nuts, with loctite and finally peen the end of the stud over. Never come undone. Just call me Cadbury. I shall take a dim view of any who take this seriously.

Thin on the bottom/inside is what I was learned and makes sense to me stress-wise.

Many thanks chaps for your enlightening replies. The object of the exercise is more for scale fidelity rather than actually using them as locknuts, a soupcon of Locktite will be applied any how. :-)) :-)) :-))
