This is a question regarding Easylite filler for Stavros really
or anyone else who has used this filler.
Does the filler dry hard with a protective surface similar to P38
but easier to sand?
Waterproof?
Thanks,
N.

Right easy one to Ans {-) {-) {-)
Yes it dries hard this is what we use for body repairs so it has to be
VERY easy to sand..........Far BETTER than P38
As for Being Waterproof............Er NO
Right let me put a few MYTHS right here with reagrds to Car Body filler...
No car body filler at all is Waterproof, NONE AT ALL....as a Matter of fact it is Porus if anything, and CAN if left unprotected let in water....I must confess to having a big chickle to myself whan i see car body filler being used on the INSIDE of a hull to fix in Prop tubes and the like.It WILL eventually crack and let go......You should ALLWAYS use Isopon P40 or equivellent GRP FIBER PASTE.
It is the paint that protects and Waterproofs ALL Fillers.
TBH with you Primer by it's nature is also porus more so than filler ...thats why I advocate DRY sanding all the time to stop water ingress into it,let alone DRY sanding of the filler.

Off subject and Thinking out loud, Wonder how feasible it is for moderators to extract do's, don'ts, hints and the like from the many many informative comments on this forum.
For example if you see a 'gem' as below readers can report it to moderator for inclusion in listing

Thanks Dave, the Easylite filler from Halfords comes in a large tub for, £9.99.
So large in fact that I doubt I would get through that much on 5 boats! -750ml.
However, I have had enough of the P38 - its such hard work getting back to the profile
after filling imperfections.
If its good enough for car body's thats fine for me.
Incidentally I'm also using Molak Stucco, fine filler, for that extra fine finish
in small areas. Its a putty model filler in case you haven't tried it. (Small tube)

You can get other upol fillers with similar properties in bag form. This will keep better than tins, which tend to distort with repeated opening and closing letting in air and making the filler go off. e.g.

A right recipe for disaster. All single pack fillers shrink and NEVER properly harden,as for the size of the tin of easylight, just remember one thing they are never filled ....oh excuse the pun......to the top.......Your choice.......I know what I WOULD rather NOT USE

I have used Ronseal wood filler successfully http://www.ronseal.co.uk/products/high-performance-wood-filler (http://www.ronseal.co.uk/products/high-performance-wood-filler) it is nowhere near as hard as P38 and sands very easily. Have you any views on it Dave?

TBH with you Colin have never tried it as I have been using Easylight and Top stop on everything as I find it far superior to anything i know.

Yes, I agree P38 is just hard work and while I haven't bought any Easylite
yet that is what I will use in future.
However, I have had no trouble at all with Molak Stucco filler - in fact it has been
so easy to use and dries with a very smooth finish and no pin holes.

If I open a tin of any paste product I always pop a tied off food bag in there. This little 'balloon' displaces almost all the air.

Hi Dave took your advice and changed my profile and added location , wanting to fit my bow thruster tube in my portgarth , read all your posts on how p38 not water proof ,never fitted one before ,so a little daunting . Certain dont want it leeking after a monthor two ,and all my hard work on my first build to end up in a soggy mess.

Once the paint is on it, it will be sealed, so no worries there. I always seal mine with P38.
