Hi,
Can't help on the building side, but below is a link to Cornwall model boats, who sell a range of Graupner 6V smoke generators.

Whilst a little late, and 12 volts, may I direct you to my design featured on " Warship Models Underway" "How To's" 5th item down. There is a design and pictures. There is no reason why this would not work with 6 volts but it really depends upon your battery capacity.
Hope this may help
Cheers
Geoff :-)

Hi,
You could try the Hen Long 1/16th tank smoke generator units, the one I have fitted on my Tiger Tank is basic enough for effects.
