Even the carving skills there fall into insignificance compared to the planning involved with that !!

Amazing skills, but I think all the parts were carved from one piece of wood rather than the whole from a solid lump. But the sails really are a formidable bit of work.

But maybe it is from a block. I just can't imagine the cross grain rigging being doable.

I'd agree, the grain is running in several different direction.  However, it is still an extraordinary piece of work
