%% Posh modellers call it a workshop less posh modellers call it the shed my wife calls it a tip,but its all mine. {-) {-)
I try and be posher and call it a studio........won't tell you what MY wife calls it, {-) {-) {-) {-) {-) {-) {-)
-
I have just managed to acquire a room on the side of the house... serious luxury. My wife calls it my new office which is nothing to do with model boat building.... of course it isn't ok2 :}
-
One of the advantages of being single is being able to build your boats wherever you like, and I do :-))
-
I did have a nice 3m. x 6m. space in the shed 21m. x 6m. but it got flooded 18 months ago. <:(
The insulation and plasterboard is now full of mildew and it gave me an infection that resulted in a stay in hospital with pneumonia. <:( <:( <:(
I have had to move my boat building into the Office space about 1.5m. x 2.5m but at least I am not coughing my lungs out.
Soldering and spray painting can be done in my son in laws "Garage" part of the shed and my wife now uses my part of the shed to store her art materials as well as use the remaining 12m. x 6m. space to do her art. %%
n.b. we have big sheds for a big country. :embarrassed:
-
On the dining table
-
%% I would not dare do that or I would not get my supper, I love my boats but I got too eat . %%
-
one of the four bedrooms, part of studio and a Hangar in the airfield 8)
-
Dining Table. When I need to eat I clear a plate sized space.
Andy
-
Spare bedroom, sharing with the cat!!
-
On an old '50s school desk along one wall in my bedroom, under the window. That way I get to use the window sill as additional space. Storage is on top of both wardrobes and under my bed as well, and an old bookcase.
Rich
-
The front room used to be an office, no longer used as such for some years and had tended to fill up with anything cleared out from other rooms. It is now my Dockyard, equipped with workbench and B&Q kitchen cupboards that were half price. This is now where I adjourn to when the TV seems locked into forensic dramas.
-
Got the same TV at home.
Luckily I have a spare bedroom :-))
Ned
-
12ft long worktop in the garage all for my boats and integral to the house :-) ..............but no natural light :(( So it's the dining room table for me with a huge south facing window but i have to put everything back into the garage after each build session. Seem to spend more time setting up and putting away than actually building!!!!!!
Regards, Dave.
-
If you look in this months Model Boat magazine page 61 thats my winter work shop in my spare room a remodeled wardrobe, in as it warmer and have tv, computer, and music but out side i have a 21ft x 141/2ft garage which she dont put the car in now as I stopped getting it out for her so now leaves it on the drive (think about it lads ) it has 2 beer fridges, tv, music, all my tools, 2inch rubber floor, so feel am very lucky, and tv dont pick up soaps.
Regards Howard.

%% I like the idea of the beer fridge ! {-) {:-{

I call it Mason,s Boatyard...
My Wife Calls it the Dining Room...
...Norry...
-
I build on my desk, where my computers are in the front room, just have rubbsh bags close and tip the rubbish straight in. But then I work from home so I just stop computer / desgn work when I'm fed up wth it and get on with making some more of what ever models I'm working on... ( normally at least 4 ). My Husband builds on a converted coffee table also in the front room, hes got two or three models going on too.
-
Shed or spare bedroom, only problem is the tools are in the shed and the boat upstairs or visa versa
regards Jack.
-
my 'work' computer is in my 'office' under the stairs, its just big enough for an A0 size cutting mat :-)
Grendel
-
I play in the cellar, :embarrassed: Disadvantage no natural light, smells go up stairs, no TV radio only. Advantages warm in winter ( gas boiler) cool in summer, plenty of space, can make as much mess I like, get a bang on floor when its time to eat. SIMBO is only allowed 3ft square to hang washing over boiler.
-
This isn't the shop, but it's where much of the construction takes place.
The photo is a little dated, you can tell by the "monitors" on the computers.
The "workshop" is "scary"... %)
-
dining table or coffee table. out outside on workmate
-
I have a Bijou shed .... summer only. Otherwise it's the living room - I get away with murder really as long as I keep it reasonably tidy.
Trying to figure out if she would notice a lathe? If I brought it in on her darts night ..... maybe not :D
Dave
-
Kitchen table
-
I build, at the dining room table, outside and on the floor in front of the telly-I normally do my detailing on the floor-have got foliage flock, metal filings and the odd spot of paint on the rug... :embarrassed: I do get into trouble...don't know why? %)
Si:)
-
My front room is like a model museum... about half the room is taken up with model boats and hovercraft !
-
It use to be the breakfast bar,now it is the shed(now all the junk has been cleared)
-
It use to be the breakfast bar,now it is the shed
Must have been hell to convert :o

%% Buy plenty of flowers always works, you could hide the lathe behind some,Ray. >>:-( >>:-(

Trying to figure out if she would notice a lathe?
Funny you should mention that. When fitting a double garage into the garden, in order to clear the base area, my garden shed had to go, sooooo the lathe had to come indoors for a while. It was cleaned and took pride of place in the living room, got a few strange looks from visitors but to tidy up for Chrissy, SWTSMBO covered it with a light sheet. Due to its shape, Austrian Lathe with vertical milling attachment, the pokey up bit got a Father Christmas hat stuck on it.
NO, I didn't have it wired up. (Thought about it though) :D
Regards Ian.

And then the time when a visitor did a double take in the kitchen once, re-built me Guzzi there, but that was long before the Garage. O0 Mercury outboard engine rebuild used the chest freezer as a workbench. %)

He can't find anything now, nothing will change, Mick B.
-
We have 3 bedrooms upstairs, one is now a completely converted boat building dock, about 10ft x 10 ft., trouble is I now have too much stuff, it looks like a tool & hobby store....I do have a large shop out of the city where I keep my lathe & mill & all my automotive tools ( lots of them ) but it is 12KM to that shop, so I only go there during the day or in sheer desperation when I really need the tool or whatever...Mick B....
-
i have a 12x5 meter covered patio with a 8 seater JARRA BBQ table with a rotisserie in the center ( haven't a BBQ for years so use it as work bench now )
fans /music/beer fridge /bbq and a view over the pool

Just exactly as I expected, the cupboards would not look out of place even in someones posh kitchen. You can see the owner suffers from a very organised mind. It looks just like we all should have as a playroom. I hope you live a long long time to enjoy it Dave & that there will be many many launches from that site. When you have so much time now, can we expect new and genius inventions to appear from time to time, may be even (I wish) a Brushless ESC or something equally magic that works as well as your P94 & all the other units that we have been so blessed to have access to over the years, good luck my friend, and being that it is Saint Patrick's day Sunday, an Irish saying from Phyllis & me,"May the road rise to meet you, may the wind always be at your back and you are a 1/2 an hour in Heaven before the Devil knows you are dead", The Heaven bit might be a bit of a stretch for you & I. Mick B.
-
Here are photos of my shop, on this side of the pond.
-
You certainly have all the toys & it looks well organised Hammer.. It sure makes things a lot easier to do when you have the space & the tools to do things without having to put stuff away each time you finish a session. I am amazed by the members that work on the kitchen table & the boats they can build there, I would go crazy. Thanks for sharing with us, Mick B...
-
I would kill for the workshops some of you guys have

%% Hi,Hammer,I have the same amount of kit in my workshop but about a third of the space, which means I have to try and be very tidy which
I am afraid I am not. My wife would not let me try to do any modelling in the house, she would be hovering over me with the hoover and duster,
safer in the workshop I can be as untidy as I like. >>:-( >>:-(
-
I started many years ago, on my dad's garage floor. Hammer.
-
That's called working your way up, it looks like you have two lathes, am I correct & what make are they ?. I started with my Grandfathers tools when he was out, I dare not touch them if he was home. I did not have a drill so I heated nails of different diameters on the open fire & burned holes that way,the glue we used was made from horses hoofs, my how the world has changed. Mick B...
-
Yes 2 lathes a Warco WM 180, 80mm swing + 300mm between centres, made in China. It dose all I need, the only complaint I have the electronic speed control. The small one a Emco unimat 3. made Austria, only good for small & light work but very good at that. I have all the attachments for this one including milling. Geoff
-
Dining table! But according to the Mrs everything stinks and is messy..... i need a boatshed ;)
-
It looks like you have everything covered Lathe wise, I have a Busy Bee also from China, it has a gearbox & is a 10x18 (inches). I would like a smaller one for some things but space is always a problem & the main shop is 12KM from the house, not much help at 9PM in the evening. I have a mill also from Busy Bee CX701, I am still learning to use it as I never had one before. The prices here are half the price that you guys pay. I have all the tools & they cost more than the machine, now if I only knew how to use them all LOL. Mick B..
-
%% Hi,Hammer I have a Warco180 also, it does enough for what I want, not the best but all I could afford at the time.Years ago I used to use
a very old piller drill and lots of files to turn down bits of brass, took for ever and hard work, strange what we result to when we don't have
the right tools but we manage,Ray. :o :o %)
-
I have the Unimat 3 too - bought new in the 70's, great little lathes - very portable.
Grendel

Lads and Lasses I really DONT want to pour water on your chips here at all believe you me BUT have a think about it O0
There are so Many unregistered users out there ......we DONT KNOW who they are whether they are true Modelers or Thieves.....It doesn take an Eistein to work out what club we sail with get friendly with club Mmebers and find out where you live etc.....They will ALLREADY know what you have in your shed Or Garage, and will soon have it away.
If I am right in thinking and I am Sure he will correct me on this,BUT If memory serves me right Brian Young on here who lost a lot of his Models and tools wiht a break in.
Think before posting what you got...........I for one wont post pics of My shed
Dave
-
I don't argue with your advice at all Dave but if we listened to all our fears then we would be too terrified to live at all.
Dave
-
Dave & Dave I can see both sides, however I agree with Norseman a little more, I think we must not let our fears stop us from living a good life.. Last time I visited my sister in law in London the house had bars in the windows, my comment was why are you behind bars & the crooks are not. We allow our freedom to be taken from us one piece at a time & one day find ourselves in a dictatorship. Don't try breaking into my shop, you will have a very nasty surprise if you do. Sometimes there is merit to the use of force or what ever is required to get the desired results. Two loud dogs are a big help too, most crooks don't like houses or shops with dogs that have a big bark. Mick B.
-
You would never get near our shed, the little monster called Bruin the Lakeland Terrier would get them before the got near the back gate and then they would have to get past my mum (don't want to tackle her if she's in a bad mood! :embarrassed: Sorry Mum!) and even then if you got past that you have to tacke Fort Knox just to open the door, it made with steel and covered in wood! The windows are barred from the outside and welded on, and then you would discover this person in there... and he has a bayonet some where on his person!!! {-) Or so he has told me, don't want to risk it would you?!
P.S it's also why we build such big models there is no way they could carry them, especially the Gnat.
-
It is nice to see your posts Nick, I miss your Falklands thread.. That is a very nice workshop in the photo. You are right, a good barking dog is great insurance, & even better if he tears a strip off. Mick B.
-
Hi Mick
Glad you are better, and nice to speak you again on the forum.
We purposely built the workshop to be thief proof, its built from brick and blocks and has a very high tiled roof, mind you it was built when Dad was slightly better off!
Here is a picture of the little monster, aka Bruin!
Don't let his size fool you he has not only just drew blood on me, he petrifies anyone who enters the house!
As for the Falkland thread I'm glad it provided a lot of interest, I've been informed through the RAF grape vine that I might be sent somewhere else soon if I get picked up to be a corporal and get sent somewhere hot and dry! And it won't be Cyprus! <:(

Fortunately or unfortunately my workshop is underground, not as secure as a bank vault but almost. Hammer.
