well i have two graupner elke fishing boats ok2 one built but in need of a revamp and a new kit still in the box and wounderd what to do with them then i came across this site and i think the built boat is going to get coverted to this http://www.rc-modellbau-schiffe.de/wbb2/thread_15477_Noch-ein-KFK.html what do you guys think.
should i build the new kit as is and convert the built one. or do the conversion on the new kit

It would appear that the planking on the FWD anti aircraft mount depicted as athwart ships may be incorrect @ 90 degrees reversed?...... :o ....Derek

Hi Mick,
I learn most from my own mistakes. So, I would use the new kit for the new boat and convert the old one.
Good luck

Surely reversed would be 180 degrees
From athwartships to fore and aft ain't
Reversed but rotated 90 degrees to port or starboard ??

An interesting project! Over 1.000 units were ordered by the German Navy and 600+ were aktually delivered.
Some were build for Germany during the war in "neutral" Sweden!!!! The hull was always the same, but there were quite a few variations in the superstructure and weaponry! I remember that the Graupner ELKE based on a real ELKE fishing boat in the 1950s, also started her carerr as a KFK.
Interesting to note that the other Graupner model, the Whaler RAU XI now on display in the German Maritime Museum at Bremerhaven, was also built for the Navy as an auxiliary sub chaser...similar to the Flower Class Corvettes, which also have a Whaler background...
I would build the new kit as ELKE and the old one convert to a KFK.
Cheers!

Hi Mick.
what you are wanting to build is called a verpostenboot which is merchant/ civilian craft coverted to coastal and harbour patrol vessels.

There are various 1/35 figures at the same supplier.
The multi barrel on the front looks very much like the "2cm Flakvierling"
Regards Ian.

The ELKE should ba around 1:36. The scale is never very exact with Graupner, for sure 1,35 is fine, possibly 1:40 as well.
In 1:40 you do have some options fo 20 and 40 mm guns as well as depth charges and smoke generators / containers intended for the Robbe S-Boot:
http://www.hobby-lobby-modellbau.com/onlineshop/index.php/language/en/cat/c146_Graue-Flotte.html (http://www.hobby-lobby-modellbau.com/onlineshop/index.php/language/en/cat/c146_Graue-Flotte.html)
Maybe the floats for the S-130 also fit...
-
circlip and pw569 thanks for the links :-))
pw569 ihear what your saying about the scale of the elke listed on box as 1/36th but i will take that with a pinch of salt. %)
i have started the stern gun platform same as the front one just 10mm smaller od
need a coffee now :-))
will be back with more update's soon.

Dear Mick,
I did not mention the scale issue to complain, but to indicate that 1/40 fittings (guns) might also work with her!
I think it may be better to use nice but less detailed guns (like the Robbe ones) rather than the highly accurate Army ones from the 1:35 kits.
Could look awkward if you have a nice model, but hyper detailed guns.... :police:
Great build! (and fast!)!
-
pw569
sorry if my reply seemed as if i was refering to your post as a scale issue to complain.
i didnt mean for it to come out that way my frend. i was just agreeing with you as to the scale of the graupner kits
my apologies if it seemed that way :-))
and yes i would agree 1/40th scale guns would look fine on the model. so now i have more options for the guns lol
best regards

Sharkbite0,

Looking very nice so far.
Have you thought about running gear yet?
-
hi mark w

regards
mick
-
thanks tugcowboy.
thanks for the comment.
the boat is running with a 400 motor 20amp esc and a 6volt 4,5amp hour battery and 2.4ghz radio :-))
bit over scale speed i know but i like to be able to get out of the way of the fast elictric boys lol.
just sorcing the guns for the fore and aft gun platforms at the moment .

mick

Mick!
looking good! A quick pace as well! Congrats.
Do you have drawings?
Some niche detail pictures can be found "hidden" on the previous posted link for the Arbeitskreis Historischer Schiffbau.
Some of the exhibition pictures show the KFK. Look at this shot for the winch under the aft weapon platform (Dusseldorf 1012):
Or 40mm forward:

Finished?
...allthough, we did have a great summer...would not be surprised if the yard sent the workers out to enjoy the sun!
With the storm this weekend, guess it could be a good time to enter the yard again!
Cheers!
