Title: Good price on a Stuart Puffin?
Post by: muleears on April 02, 2013, 09:15:29 am
Found a new Stuart Puffin for 239 GBP, plus shipping.  I don't usually buy new stuff so I don't know if this is a good price.  Looking at the Stuart page where they are 399 GBP, it appears to be a good price.  Anyone have any comments?

Cal,
Don't forget that the Stuart price of £399 has a VAT charge of 20% on top of that which if you bought from the factory you being outside of the E.U. you could possibly  get it for the £399.+ shipping.

Is it a Genuine Stuart or a copy ?  remember the old saying " if it's too good to be true it ain't true "

Where did you find it?
George.

Found it on Ebay

They have one left (I bought the other).  They claim to come with the Stuart paperwork and be genuine Stuarts.  I hope they are!

Having already spent my hard earned cash on this little engine, now is NOT the time to ask these questions but I will anyway... %)

Not being able to find a great deal of information about this engine, but based on its reputation I'm Assuming that is has a built in throttle and is reversible?  If not, oh well :embarrassed: .  If it does, all the better, I will enjoy it either way!

Hi Cal,
It sure looks the real deal and it has speed control and forward/reverse on the one servo.

George.

It's on it's way.  I'll report what I find when it arrives.  The seller just refunded the overage of the shipping costs, so he appears to be an honest guy.

I think this would make an excellent engine for the Billings African Queen (29 inches).  Maybe not authentic, and a little too big, I think the original had a single cylinder.  Now I've just got to find a small upright boiler for it.  I have been looking and haven't found one....   One I can afford anyway {-) .  I may have to resort to a small horizontal.  I even thought of transplanting the Krick twin and boiler out of the Alexandra.  But that I think, would be too large.

The puffin arrived today.  It was packed very well and well oiled inside a plastic bag.  Seems to be a very well built engine. I can't wait to try it out!

Some pics of the new Puffin with the excess oil removed.  Looks very nice (to me).  How do I keep the brass bits shiny?  Must I take it apart and lacquer them?
