Now that the LSE has reclassified British workers and others, what class are you?
Downunder we apparently have seven classes:-
1. Pensioners class
2. Unemployed class
3. Indigenous class
4. Working class
5. Upper class (yes, there are some of those) and
6. The Elite (Gina and her ilk) and lastly
7. The politicians living off whatever cream they can scrape from Australia, placing their noses in the troughs of the public purse and setting themselves up after retirement/dismissal for another round on the public purse.
So we are 'lucky' we only have 7 classes...
Me?
I'm Class 1 %%
Thanks 'sparrow prince'

That would be telling.
I am not a number. I am a person.
I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed, or numbered!

In France we have the class:
50 you are too old to work but you will pension at age 62 ? ?? ? ? >:-o

I was working for the local electricity supplier, when (after 26 years service) they decided I wasnt needed any more, so at age 52 I found myself redundant, the payout paid off my mortgage and because it was redundancy my work pension pays out - just £8500 a year, now thats too much to be able to claim anything, but just short of paying for all the bills plus food. so I found myself a nice little part time post - well a zero hour contract, when they need me they may me for the hours I work, I calculated 20 hours a month would be comfortable, but after the initial few months the hours have died off- its been over 4 months now since the last work given to me, so I am once again looking for part time work to tide me over.

Seems to me there are only two classes to-day "The Haves" and the "Have nots" . Though the current politicos would probably
disagree they being the "Haves" and more intent on increasing the number of "Have nots" Mr Osborne made the remark twice in
the last few months that how terrible it was for a person going off to work in the morning and seeing their neighbours curtains
drawn as there were still in bed because the were "living on benefits". Don`t know where he got the idea that you could "live on
benefits" yes you can "exist" on them if you are extremely careful. Like to see Mr Osbourne keep a house on £70 a week.

If I had to be ascribed to a "class", personally I would opt for the Tribal Class of the early 1900's.

I am in the 'better off dead' class. That's how it seems at time. I am on disability, being disabled a long time but only got disability a few months ago, now they have changed the system and I will have to start all over again, may not even get it this time. My wife works for herself so she can look after me and work but money is tight. My models and boats are something that I try and do to keep me occupied and keep my hands and arms moving and my mind active, hope that they do not have to go to pay a bill or two but they will it comes to it. I'm in my 40's, disabled and cannot work, if my disability goes I have nothing and I do ask myself-what's the point? Just a moan guys, that is all.

Hello
I just wonder where all the work and money has gone from 'this civilised' world. Here in the UK you had a job for life, not any longer and I like several I have read about got made 'R' at 47. Not easy finding a job at 47 took me 12 months and an involuntary pay cut of several thusand. Not unusual I hear you cry.
I am surprised that the situation is similar 'down under' although I had heard that the dreaded elf and safety was screwing Australia up as well, wonder if their police persons are sueing garage owners for having kerbs on their premises. I did hear someone ask where was her free issue torch.
I am now lucky enough to be retired and alive, well I was last time I checked. My boats and modelling them are one of the delights of my life and would not be without them. I am known in the family as grumpygramps >>:-( and enjoy playing up to it.
Keep smiling we might get a summer soon, looking forward to put a boat in the pond.
Best regards Chris G

Eddie, if you go for an asessment don't tell them about the
weathering.
They will get you a job weathering some chicken parts for
a certain US Colonel.
Your submarines look better than the stuff he puts in buckets.

>:-o Hi Eddie,I hope you feel a bit better, I think it is rotten the way the powers to be are treating disabled people at the moment it is hard
enough coping with a disablement without worrying about money, still keep your chin up and enjoy your modelling, best of luck ,Ray. %%

Cheers Ray, yeah, I'm okay, just thought a moan was in order :-) I agree, it is difficult everyday, although I know there are people who cheat, for genuine disabled people it is hard to get money and it seems with the new PIP system keep it. I shall enjoy my boats for aslong as I can.

Frank >>:-(
If you would like to see IDS live up to his claim that he could manage to live on £53 per week "if he had to", there is a petition to encourage him to put his money where his mouth is - https://www.change.org/en-GB/petitions/iain-duncan-smith-iain-duncan-smith-to-live-on-53-a-week (https://www.change.org/en-GB/petitions/iain-duncan-smith-iain-duncan-smith-to-live-on-53-a-week)
Seems its up to 400000 and climbing. Seems that his unconsidered ignorance has sparked a bit of discussion.
Personally, I would like to see the house debate a motion to the effect that "The salary of the Secretary for the Department of Work and Pensions should be reduced to £2700 for the next year".

yet mp's are claiming that their £15 a day lunch allowance isnt enough - thats more per week than they expect some people to live on, double standards here I think.

I firmly remain working class despite all the daft questionnaires results. My sub group is Dinosaur 56 - that's what my bosses think of anyone over forty eight. They have their reasons but I couldn't dare hazard a public guess why.
I have some news about living on the states £53 a week. It is entirely possible to do this continually and yet spend over £53 a week. My son 26 can attest to this fiscal fact, and indeed it is the root of his concern with continuous employment. As long as I remain continuously employed he can continue to be the exact opposite. He gets away with it simply because I won't upset his mum. I wonder if I'll make seventy and find myself wet nursing a forty year old?
Targeting those unable to work will achieve nothing but misery. They should however make those able to work do some public works whilst unemployed over six months. Too many don't want to work at all. I'm not at all against the genuine job seeker being supported.

As far as the £53 a week goes is that just for food. certainly is`nt going to far towards paying the quarterly bills.
Frank.
-
Hi Frank
I don't quite know how it works for say a young lad with a flat who is made redundant. There is probably some housing allowance but beyond that I guess the £53 is supposed to cover fuel and everything else. I can't see how you could live on that amount independent of your your family. God help anyone in that situation.
Dave

Frank.
The allowance was in the region of £70, as per the George Osbourne bit of the thread, the £53 comes from the rent allowance being cut if there is "spare room", so its not just food - there will be choices to be made between heating and eating, and if a job should be found, probably a choice between keeping the flat and outdoor sleeping near the workplace. There have been cases in the past where the weekly pay for the job does not cover the cost of actually getting to the job.
-
Hi Dave.
single adult allowance is £70 pr week in my area.
That has to cover electricity, gas, discounted council tax phone, internet, service charge, tv licence, food, clothes,
travel. etc I can tell you the 4 quarterly services charges eats a whole months money. council tax for the 10 months
£250. another months noney away. Then osbourn tells us you should put money away for your pension how.
Frank.

I bet Mr Osbourne pays more than £70 for 1 meal out.
