I currently have a boat fitted with 3 x Graupner speed 500E 12v motors running through a ripmax no limit ESC. I am not happy with the performance and feel a better quality ESC would make a difference. I want to run all 3 engines off one channel. Any suggestions please {:-{

"not happy with the performance", not happy with the speed range, top end speed, slow speed control?
-
I am not happy with the top end speed and slow speed control. Since posting my question I have also been told the Ripmax does not like getting wet. As I did not build this boat this ESC was not my choice. Thanks for your interest

We model boaters like to keep our ESC's dry.

My preferance is for the ACTion P94 Dual High Power twin ESC & Mixer. Runs on 6 to 24V. 20A.
No set up required, remarkable solid and tolerant, it has the advantage that the inbuilt mixer will allow L or R props to automatically adjust speed according to your rudder position, allowing very tight turns using just a single Rx channel.

from Component Shop http://www.component-shop.co.uk/html/esc.html (http://www.component-shop.co.uk/html/esc.html)
I have them in all by boats now.

I need a min 30 amp ESC each of my motors have a stall amp of 10. I like the idea of the mixer though. Thanks for your interest

What model is it that needs 3 x 500 motors?
Stall at 10 Amps shows these are not powerful motors.

If the motors stall at 10 Amp. Then why do you require an esc that gives 30 Amps per motor. Or do you mean that you require one 30 amp esc? You could use three escs, Suitably fused of course. The lads await clarification to be able to advise. John.

See diagram for Graupner Wiesel here http://http://www.action-electronics.co.uk/wd.php (http://http://www.action-electronics.co.uk/wd.php)
Runs the whole model from two channels (Throttle and Steering).
Suit yourself.

Hi Maverick only uses one ESC. 3 500 motors combined stall current is 30 amps 10 amps per motor.

From Cornwall Models website.
Graupner Speed 500E (1788) Economy 540 size motor with low current drain. Ideal for tugs
Nominal voltage 12V, Operating voltage range 6-12V
No-load rpm 12000, Current drain at max. efficiency 2A
Shaft diameter 3.17mm, Weight 158g
At 12000 rpm and 3 shafts she should be flying.
What props are fitted?

Thanks for the replies.
My boat has 3 x 35mm M4 twin blade plastic props

Silly question - what voltage is it running on, and what size and type of battery?
-
I will be using a 12v NiMH battery. The motors are 12v. I think I now have enough information to make a decision on which way I will go. Thank to all those who contributed

Let us know the results :-))

Will do with pleasure, very grateful for the suggestions

Less weight = faster boat, unfortunately also usually means less ability to deliver current and shorter run times. Just a question of getting the right balance.
