Hi Guys thought I would show my latest build , waited till I had a fair bit done before posting as Mike (patternmaker has already covered the wide-awake in his wonderful build post to which I am most thankful as I would probably not attempted this model without the fine details and images.
My other reason to build was having owned a 16 ft version made by vinco in Sydney and was on exhibition at Royal Easter Show 1954 wonderful boat and great times were had .
The final tip over the edge was when I spotted an antique sideboard thrown out on the footpath as soon as I saw it that was it.
I have a boiler and engine home built for this model so some more woodwork to the deck some paint and be soon on the water ,taken about six weeks to this stage ,marine ply planking the rest mostly hardwood and built from same plans wide-awake.
Cheers

I posted a note here on Mayhem last week about the calculation the tapering of planks :embarrassed: ....well appears that you have the knowledge %) ..................Derek

Am watching with great interest. Six weeks! Respect! It is strange the effect that old furniture seems to have on us steam launch builders. Also why do all the clinker built steam launch hulls appear to be in Oz? Very thin on the ground in UK. (Am assuming from Derek's post you are Downunder?) Please, more pics.
Jerry.

I built this clinker model hull because they are so umcommon in the UK and I wanted to try something different.

ooooooh! All you guys doing the clinker hulls are getting my juices flowing. That's got to be next on the list, although I'm a few practice sessions away from being anywhere near as good as the boats seen here. More photos - and how-to-do-its - please.

Hi Guys just an update on my steam launch build
Did a waterline test at favorite waterhole and she took 10 lb ballast as can be seen in the photo so with a boiler and engine plus water tanks she should not need too much extra ballast .
The crew are getting impatient so better move onto the engine now that the boat is getting close to finish, the engine is twin cylinder slide valve 5/8th bore x 3/4'’ stroke so should give ample power, the boiler in the photo is copper 4’’ x 8’’ return flu propane fired using gauze burner from clevdon steam.
Solved the my steering linkage problem with a cable used for model aircraft, I am hoping someone can give me a clue on ageing the skipper Bernhard comes to mind ,also some idea on how to stretch the skipper’s arm on the tiller would be helpful I will show more pics as project progresses
Cheers
