Post by: paul1985 on July 23, 2013, 11:01:27 am
Hi
I am building a speedline severn what angle do the trim tabs need to be set at
or is it a trial and error game until there right to the boat
also do i need to make them adjustable or is there no need once the angle is set

Thanks Paul

Personally I would set them at a "neutral" angle (straight out) and not have them adjustable. You can make them adjustable through your radio, but it does involve some extra and not to easy work.If she planes at the wrong angle, then it is just a simple matter of adjusting the ballast slightly to get the correct look.
Cheers,
Mick

Thank you Mick thats makes sense really I was told an angle of 5% up was about right but straight is fine like you say and adjust with ballast
Thanks

  Hi Paul,

My friend Bob has his so they are adjustable with the remote control. When they are up or straight out the bow will lift out of the water with the bow thruster just about out of the water. With the tabs fully down the boat runs at full speed with its bow on the water line. The thing to note is that with the tabs down the steering can be a problem because the bow pressure will keep the boat turning when the rudders are in the central position. So if your not making them adjustable the best position is fully up.
