Do any of the members collect Stobart names and numbers, we have quite a few people regularly outside where I work writing down, I presume the numbers and names, also photographing the lorries. On the way to Lakeside shopping last week there was a man on a footbridge doing the same thing.
I am interested why you do it.
Brian

A hobby :-))
Though I do not write down the names the wife and I do 'collect points' when we spot an E S truck while out driving.
-
Do points mean prizes? if so I have won the jackpot O0 O0 O0 O0 O0
Brian
-
im not sure if it is still on but but on channel 5 there used to be a programme once a week that showed eddie stobart drivers saving the country one way or another

im sure just like train spotters and bus spotters they are a very sad group of people ? many of them will risk not only there own lives but that of others to get photos of their chosen vehicle being driven , twice in recent years ive had to take ivasive actions by some sad bus spoters leapinmg into my path to photo the bus following me up the road !
-
Just because we do not follow a certain activity does not mean that those who do are "sad". The fact that Stobart lorries are always immaculately clean, and that they are named, makes them easy to differentiate one from another, just like railway locomotives. Train spotting has been a hobby for as long as I can remember and, while I never took an interest in it, I don't regard those who do as "sad". I'm sure there are many people who regard we boat modellers as sad, too, but we know better, don't we?
Having said that, I realise that there are always those who will go to extremes, even to the extent of risking their own, and other's, lives, and this is deplorable. However, it doesn't mean that all enthusiasts should be tarred with the same brush.
Peter.
-
I certainly do not think people who do this are sad, people could say that about people making models.
I was just interested why they do it. Like Peter I never collected train numbers, but even today there are people who do that.
They look like they come from all walks of life also, yesterday there was a young guy outside where I work in a suit, he looked like he had just left an office
I got thinking about this after seeing the guy above the motorway, while going on a shopping trip.

I watch tractor pulling...
Have you ever seen it live?
I've only ever seen it on Utube...
-
Yes Martin, there's an agricultural show near here where they have tractor pulling annually, the big 3.5 tonne and the 4.5 tonne tractors rarely put in an appearance, which is a shame, but the other classes are normally well represented.
When you get up close and personal to a tractor with a supercharged Rolls Royce Merlin running on open exhausts, it's one of the most awesome things you can ever witness...the ground shakes, your ears hurt, your chest vibrates...I love it. You think a blown 500cu in Hemi engined Top Fuel dragster is loud...you've heard nothing yet!
There's an annual show in Ipswich ( I think it's called the Suffolk County Show, or something like that) where they used to have tractor pulling, that's not a million miles from you, is it? Check it out and see if the tractors still appear there.
There's a whole lot of information on UK tractor pulling events here:

We have tractor pulling at all the rally's I attend, and the noise and pollution puts me off going anywhere near.As for the photo above how can that ever be called a tractor? I have never been a train spotter, but have always been interested in watching and seeing any type of steam engine, either a railway or showmans type.
Girl spotting however, with me living near the coast, now that IS an interesting hobby O0 ;D :D

there are a few with male names, but not many,
and as for being "sad", triumph jon, the only sad persons are those who call us sad.....both I and my wife and daughters love spotting them when ever we travel.......just like ship spotting, it has an interesting thread to it......better than vegetating and doing sod all, as some people that only have one hobby seem to do if they can't do their own thing.
Please don't decry those that have a different view on life to your own, Triumphjon..... <*< <*< <*<

Not all the lorries Stobart have are named after a woman, there are some men in there. As we have 100 lorries a day going out of our site at the moment perhaps I should start collecting them. I would then get paid for having a hobby, pop round the loading area during my tea break it would be easy O0 O0 O0 O0 O0

Many a member of the public named my sweeper when they were stuck behind it...

Can you point me to those
AFAIK the remit is to have only girls names and there are always two
sorry, but incorrect and not always two names needed, catengineman. you can actually go onto the Eddie Stobart members forum ( have to be a member) and there is a complete list of the names of all the trucks to see, including one named and male named trucks.
we actually spotted on our way to Scotland two weeks ago one of the TV trucks "Autumn Adelaide"
She and driver were at the Truckfest in Edinburgh a week later but we had things planned and couldn't get there unfortunately.
neil.
-
just some of the one named trucks we have seen are: Gail, Aimee, Michelle, Anita and Helena but as yet,
no male names to the collection......... but even got an E/S truck with the name Eddie Stobart L7402 on her, and without the green and red livery, but with no other name.......
so sorry to shoot down the Faq's catengineman, but they do exist out there.
-
Hope I live long enough to see them then {-)
-
I spotted the most trucks with the same name driver, he is called SCANIA. %)

One of my hobbies is collecting 1/50 modern trucks and im a bit of a spotter of anything to do way wagons. I go to truckfest Scotland every year and if you seen the effort the drivers put in to the upkeep of their wagons it would shock ya. My collection of models is prob worth in the region of£10k and I have been buying 1/76 stobarts for my 7 month son for when he's older and his collection is standing around the £300 pound mark at the moment.
And the only wagon stobart currently has in its fleet with a non girls name is the teletubbie which is a mobile screen wagon for events and shows

I was an HGV driver for Stobart for 20 years and met lots of spotters at the various depots, nice people very dedicated to their hobby, it was good to have people waving and giving a pip on their horn, as they passed on the m/way,s
Paul :-))
-
Now!!!, who was it that said there were no Eddie Stobart trucks named after blokes..
spotted this one the other day and then this morning......apparently named after Ozzy Osborne and the driver's son!
-
I used to get hundreds of people blow their horns and wave at me when I drove the sweeper.
Normally the one fingered wave, followed up with a cheery comment, like "get that f*^%$£n' heap of c>*^p out of my f**%£% way"

how do I know if it's a photoshop job?
according to http://www.stobartgroup.co.uk/ and the email from them there are NO trucks with male names.
but then could it be that these names are for females.
the REG would end doubt on the photoshop idea and also the originator of the names can be traced.
No argue so far IMHO

a Volvo FH12 was christened "Valentino" after Valentino Rossi, the legendary Italian motorcycle racer, which caused a furore among spotters. PX10 DFO

By Stobart's own admission they did have a truck with a male name, Valentino. Maybe it's out of service now but it seems quite apparent that there is now another one, Ozzy Jude. This would seem to put paid to the claim that they NEVER name their trucks after males. O0

So are Stobarts now going to tell us that Valentino is a girl's name?? :o According to the email received by catengineman from Laura at Stobarts, they did have a truck called Valentino, named after Valentino Rossi, and I'm fairly sure he's a man. It would seem, therefore, that their policy of only giving trucks female names is not set in concrete.
Having said that, does it really matter?
Peter.
-
Ok so According to Ainslie they do not accept Boys names into the fleet..
Is this Just the truck fleet or the fleet in General as
there is " Eddie the Engine" (Train)
Volvo FH12 "Valentino" after Valentino Rossi, the legendary Italian motorcycle racer
and Optimus Prime on a Man Tractor
I will be impressed to see if Ainslie can try to say Optimus Prime is a females name .. %)
