Hi can anyone help me with plans for the superstructure and fittings for the Vosper Brave Borderer, I have some details already such as photo's from web sites. I am bulding in 1:32 scale

try John Lambert plans for any drawings or HSl Mouldings for the bits.

Thanks for the assistance, I will e-mail John, but could not find anything on his web site when I looked before. Any pointers are welcome as this is a scratch build.

Another idea is the coastal forces veterans association but I have juts read in Navy news that they have disbanded, so I am not sure if you can get any help from them but they did have a good web site. Another good source is the British Military Powerboat Association. www.BMPT.org Ithink the web site is.

Hi,
I scratch built a Brave Borderer many years ago, I dont know if I still have the plans, but I will have a look around. There are a couple of pics of it on www.geocities.com/furnessmbc.
I can take some pics for you if you wish, but bear in mind, this was my first scratch build and isnt a particularly good finish.

Hi Ian, thanks, I looked at your model on the Furness site about 12 months ago and it was one of the reasons I decided to model this version rather than the Perkasa. So far I have built the hull and Bofors, the guns use the Mountfield barrells with every thing else in pasticard and brass

Nice work looks good but I think you have got the prop rudder configuration wrong the Brave Boarderer had the standard rudder behind the prop where as the Perkasa had the rudders between the props just thought you would like to know as it looks like your going for a ture scale version
I have a Perkasa and my next project will be the Boarderer

Hi Andy, yes you are right, I got ahead of myself on the prop and rudders as I thought to build a Perkasa to start with. Then as I got more info on Vosper boats, I had a change of heart. I have moved the props and now have the standard three rudders. This whole exercise started with a Precident kit, but I gave up with that and the hull is now scratch built as the kit does not bare any resemblance to the original.

cant what to see the finished model O0 on the plans from John Lambert do you have good condition bulk head sheet?
What are you going to power it with?

Hi Andy, I am installing three 650 6-12vdc motors, steering will be single rudder servo with linkages to start with and then maybe a port/centre, starboard/centre mixer if the scale rudders need help! On the other question, John's drawings are copies of the original Vosper prints and do suffer from some reproduction fogging especially on the bulkhead drawing.

Dam! hoped for a minute there that he had got hold of a clearer set of drawings sounds like the same ones I had off him some years ago.
My original plan was to convert the precedent model but it was just to far out as you said so I just built it and played with it as you do but got to say
it doe's go alright :)

well from what I have seen from the bofors I don't think you will have a problem with the way it looks not sure on the 650 motors are you going to run gel cells or nimh battery's and what version are you going to do? I like the raider version that was going to be my choice of model a little bit different I thought ,you never know I might get round to it one day when time allows ;D theres it is again the dreaded time it gets us all in the end lol

This originally started as a want for plans, seems to have turned into a build log.
As a result, rather than lock the thread down and issue any warnings, I'm going to move the thread to warship builds, that way more can be gained :)

Andy, will use Gel batterys, build in gun/torpedo boat role with two 21" torpedo's.

gel cells are ok for short bursts of high power, though their weight will probably mean you wont get on the plane at high speeds, instead just generate a big wake. use ni-cd/ni-mh type batteries in pairs and you will find performance is much better, you can get 4400mah now in sub C I think

you may find that the gel cells too heavy to give you the performance you want a friend of mine was using two 6v 10 ah gels running 12v but when he saw mine running nicads he converted, with the nicads you can save weight and pack more of a punch.with the shape of the hull when its planing it becomes quite economical with run time run time on mine is 30mins easy and the pictures I posted are after 10mins of running at mixed throttle openings and still performing O0

Thanks guys, I will heed your advice, at the moment I have only run the motors via the gel cells.
But I get the point about weight and intend to keep it to a minimum at the bow, the ni-cd/ni-mh type batteries will allow a more even distribution.

Lead Acid Gel Cells are always an attractive option for scale models where the motor consumption is well within their capacity but you have to remember that no lead acid cell likes being discharged below 50% so the real capacity is only half of the mominal rating. With NiCads and NMiH cells you can virtually drain them dry which makes them more suitable if you want more performance. As always, it's horses for courses.

I think you should re-contact John Lambert. I recieved about a month ago clear as crystal bulkhead and lines plan.
I'm currently building a 1/16 version of BB as true to scale as I can get it. All my plans were supplied by John.
