Hi Dave.......the possibility is that:
a) the Mersey is a far more attractive boat to most people's beliefs, and as such, many modellers prefer to build that class of boat
b) the Brede, was a sort of Mongrel hybrid being a converted Lochin Marine International hull and fishing boat, and although gave excellent service within the RNLI, was to many a substitute for the Medina class ( jet drive and very unsuccessful rib) whilst the Mersey and the Arun class boats were developed.
However, it's all personal choice and a lot of people condemn the Solent class boat as ugly, plain and top heavy......lest we forget the Tamar when it first appeared................... so don't be put off because not many have replied to your requests for info..............you might get the same response to any lifeboat, not in the main stream of things.
any model, and all lifeboat models are beautiful things, in my mind, so crack on, and enjoy the build and the sailing of her.............you'll always be welcomed at a lifeboat rally with a Brede.
As for my next lifeboat............I fancy the Thames class...............now that is a mongrel...........but I like them, so long as I can eventually fnd the plans I have for her somewhere.

Davidjt
Did you build your Brede from RNLI plans?
Barrie

hi barrie,
no I did my own drawing from measurements that I had from Nicolas leach book and some pictuers I had collected, that is why I made this 16 inch one all from cardboard then coated with resin and tissue paper then painted with humbrul paints. its a brilliant boat for sailing. as I said hopeing to enlarge to about 30 inches during the winter plank on frame.

Hi and thanks to everyone who replyed with information and advice reguarding the brede I will be going ahead with the build in due course once I recive my plans from the rnli ,the brede build with glass hull and cabin will alow me to obtain a detailed looking model in a relativly short time I will hopefully try to place some posts on here of my build ,if anybody has any photos that would help in my build of the brede, that dont appear on the internet ,if they would like to send me of the model or real boat it would be much appreciated thanks for now Dave,

i have had a brede hull and cabin from kingstons, its was top quality, i can only speak from my experience, also dont forget macs mouldings do a few fittings for a brede like the door and windows
-
davidjt, may I make a suggestion, build your model 33" oal this will be 12th scale as the boats where 33 foot. Alan
-
hi alan ,
just been reading through and should have put 32 inches, as the one I built at 16 inches doubled would work out at 32inches so if i add another inch will be perfect.
thanks for pointing out to me.

No problems David, I have a model on the bench at the moment that I am building, it is also a Brede, but I am building 33-01, the prototype boat, I have tracked down the real boat that is now in the hands of Yarmouth Marine Services on the Isle of Wight, the owner has a model of the boat that was built by the apprentices at Lochin Marine and he sent me about a dozen pictures of the model plus a photo of the boat in it's present state painted up in his company's colours. hi alan
its nice when you can track down existing boats, makes it more interesting. are you doing a build log on here.
david

Sorry David, no log build, it's already taken me an age, but it will be finished one day. I have not seen the prototype on the lakes I have sailed on or the shows I have been to. hopefully when finished it will be of interest to many people. Alan
