Hello!
Donīt know why, but the past days I couldnīt stop thinking about a visit to a toy shop when I was about 7-8 years old. Iīm 44 now so it was a while ago. I remember seeing a big plastic motorized ocean liner that I wanted so badly, but it was way too expensive. As I recall it was white with a yellow or orange funnel, and it was probably old as it was very dusty. As this memory suddenly appeared in my mind I wasnīt sure if it was my imagination or if it had happened and I couldīt get it off my mind. Well, after spending too much time on the internet searching I found som interesting subjects. Triang boats Orcades and Pretoria Castle seemed close enough, but I remembered it as a little more modern. I almost gave up when I stumbled on the Porto Alegre by Italian company Monteleone. I could put my mind at rest with this one, but a few questions to my fellow model boaters.
- Was there any other model/toy ships of this type in the 60īs and 70īs ?
- Does anyone have memories of this particular boat? Know anyone that has one?
I see that they are rare but beeing sold on auctions. Would make a great conversion, wish they made something like this today.
All the best!

That looks very neat!
I don't know about other passenger liners, but the Texaco Tanker was on offer in the US in the early 60's:

Hello Pat!
Yes I've seen those, looks great and unfortunately I didn't have one of those either!:-/ Poor me.
How big is she? The liner above is about 90cm long so quite big.
All the best.

The tanker is 27 inches... hmmm, almost 69 cm... and a perfect example with original packaging will fetch US$500! But one-tenth that for a poor one...
